This scenario did I made for the AoKH Minigame Competition 2009.
The War of the Last Alliance is based on a event in the Lord of The Ring story. Sauron the enemy of Middle Earth have been fought back by the Alliance, and hide himself in the tower of Barad-dûr for seven years. But after seven years of siege he finally rides out with his last armies to face the remaining forces of the Alliance, the king Elendil of Gondor and his men, along with Gil-Galad High King of the Ñoldor.
In this scenario you have a fixed army to order by using different commanders. You will understand when you play it.
Updated version 2 (10:th January 2009)
- Now it´s possible to play the alliance side.
- New Map design.

Oh dear, you left out the AI so the game is basically unplayable. I'm sure updating it pass the date nulls you from the contest. But who knows?
From what I did see, the concept and the music was cool. |

Dtrungle, you have to play the game from standard scenario and select the file there. The AI is saved within the file, but will not play from the editor. |

Well then, I learned something new. Scenarios AND Campaigns saves AI file. Scenarios however won't load the AI through the editor...
Anyways, I tried the game 3 times, failed miserably. Do I suck or is it really, really hard. |

No, it's really hard. ;-)
Decent mini-game though, but it's a pity you didn't have the time to include the option for controlling the human side of the effort.[Edited on 01/02/10 @ 09:19 PM]

"The War of the Last Alliance v.2" is a minigame with a Lord of the Rings theme. It is a fairly simple scenario in nature with a confusing gameplay.
Playability 2
I dont get it. A commander system is utilized in which the player indirectly controls his units, but how to succeed or fail as either side is quite inexplicable to me. Victory was automatic as the humans and boring and tedious as the Orcs.
Balance 2
The scenario presents a multisided challenge in which the player can choose either side, but I found the human side to be an automatic win as they easily kill even Lord Sauron without my help, and as the Orcs victory seems impossible without taking Lord Sauron along with the three Orc commanders and taking advantage of the human AI. This AI wants to attack the first unit it sees, so you can lure out batches of their army with Sauron and run in circles while the jaguar warriors kill them off.
Creativity 3
Its an interesting try at making something different than the norm, but perhaps too clever for its own good. Some audio was used, but more and a soundtrack would have helped create a richer atmosphere. Some story elements were copied directly from the wikipedia which is disappointing.
Map Design 2
The map is simple and somewhat effective at creating a dismal dark environment. However I found the terrain mixing quite poor as the grass and leaf placement is a case study in splotchy terrain usage, and the desert tiles rivals that. The structures built out of bridges and rubble are a bit confusing to me. There are little aesthetic appeal and little technical proficiency for such a tiny map, and as such a tiny size is used you would expect this screenshot worth of map to look quite nice as all effort can be directed into one small area.
Story\Objectives 3-
The story elements are quite sparse, with an introduction to LoTR for those who hadn't read or watched it on the big screen, and a history text copied straight from the wikipedia. There isn't much of interest here.
Final thoughts:If looking for a nice minigame I would do searches for "MGC14", "MGC11", and "MGC09" and selecting one of the highest rated entries instead. |
