Gwyndlegard was a peaceful country until two and a half years ago when it's jealous neighbour to the north-west, Xioché, invaded it with a force of thirty thousand led by the military geniuses Count Tengil and the witch Queen Xaphira. After the peace treaty two years ago, Xioché holds most of Gwyndlegard under occupation, save for the last free city to the east, Pumpkindon, where the country's leader Lord Mezenghi now lives.
In the country's southernmost province, Gwynhill, tension is now growing. A sergeant called Immanuel has long wanted to ambush the local Xiochan governor and start a rebellion, and when said governor takes slaves from Gwynhill village, a clear violation of the peace treaty, he gets his chance. Unfortunately his girlfriend is among the ones taken as slaves so the quest becomes quite personal.
You will take the role as Immanuel and his close friends to criss-cross the country, save your girlfriend Emily and free Gwyndlegard from the evil witch's claws in this humorous epic!
FEATURES:
• A giant map with great variety, from green green forests to open plains and snow-covered mountain tops,
• A mix of playing styles including AI-driven Build & Destroy, stealth mission in RPS and criss-crossing Fixed Force,
• A rather epic scenario that doesn't end after an hour or two,
• 965 triggers, for those who want to know
• Partially spoken dialogue (not self-made though, be thankful for that!),
• Focus on story and gameplay; no mods, data changes or overly complicated trigger tricks,
• An overdose of weird Basse humour!
Brought to you by StormWind Studios.
The story continues in The Rockspring Revolution.

Hooray! The parts I concentrated most on, story and entertainment value, are what gained top scores. :)
I've said it before already, but thanks for the reviews chaps! I'll be making another update rather soon fixing some last things, like improving parts of the map design and possibly making the AI harder in the late game. Or remove some resources. Or both.
@Julius,
"There are a number of small glitches but nothing major, such as being able to catch sight of a building called "Basse's Cottage" and being able to kill Xaphira without taking out the unholy relics first."
Hurr durr, I thought I had the first one hidden well away but I guess not. :P The second one isn't really a glitch, but I probably should've set the objective as optional. She CAN and should be possible to defeat in all her might, but removing her magic relics helps a lot.
"There are also problems with allowing the player to change diplomacy"
I shall add that to the hints. 'If you change diplomacy and something goes wrong, it's YOUR fault. Don't do it.'
"most of the names don't seem to fit very well together"
They do if you read the history and backstory. :P
Gwyndlegard is a nation with mixed cultures and heritages, so having just one style of names wouldn't be very fitting. Similarly, if you were to review a film or book that takes place in a modern country with mixed cultures, say Great Britain, you wouldn't mark it down for names such as Ahmed not fitting with the location. While Gwyndlegard's history is quite different, the situations are similar. ;)
@Popeychops,
I've already fixed the map design, and as soon as I've made some other little changes and perhaps tweaked the AI, I'll get it updated. :) |

"They do if you read the history and backstory"
Oh yes? Try explaining why the Eastern European mayor Polev, the English Emily, the Hebrew Emmanuel, the Norwegian Father Garnas, and whatever Daru is supposed to be, all live in the tiny Welsh-ish village of Gwynhill. Then explain why Lord Mezenghi chose to name his son Fabian. You can get away a bit with mixed cultures and so on, but I still overwhelmingly felt that the names were a mishmash.[Edited on 07/09/10 @ 12:01 PM]

Why English and Hebrew names don't fit together I don't understand, seeing as Hebrew names are all over the place across Europe. Garnas isn't Norwegian (as far as I know) but made up, and so is Daru (which I, in retrospect, agree was a quite unsuitable name). As for Mezenghi, he has a wife from one of the "English" regions with a strong will, so she decided the name. :P
EDIT - Seriously though, I can understand that it comes across as a mish-mash, and some of the names could've been better fitted with the locations and such. But that's what you get when working on the same scenario for two years, your ideas of what kind of place it is changes a lot and odd names sneak in all over the place. And once it's finished it's too late to go back and restructure everything. :P
Edit:
Scenario updated to V1.2, check the description for the changes.[Edited on 07/15/10 @ 01:53 AM]

Hello,
I really like it but I have one hugely annoying bug : each time I reload this scenario, it will crash AOK on the second attempt, so basically each time I want to reload I have to restart the game. I'm running Vista (I know, shame on me) but am I the only one experiencing this? |

@Bacterius,
That was a bug which occured all the time during the testing stages, but I had it fixed more or less, it never crashes for me when I play it now. I don't know if it's Vista messing with you, but if you have an XP computer lying around you could try it there.
@Madsmat,
Thanks! As for Gwyndlegard 2... well, I have plans for it, but it'll have another name than Gwyndlegard 2. ;) |

Thought I'd see if a download would work on a Mac; it does, sort of... but...
I've gotten my "army of 15" (Daru, Immanuel, Marvin, Rob Tallneck, Father Garnas, Urdana, Felicity & 2 archer, 2 militia, spearman, knight, longswordsman and cavalry archer) and am trying to cross the bridge but keep getting the same message... "Maruvians orders, no one etc."
Now... should they be changing from ally to enemy? Or is there another way across that I am too stupid to find? I think I have clicked on everything but a few trees. Or is this a problem with trying to use it on a Mac?
Please advise with a hint, or a "not completely mac compatible."
Thanks in advance for any advice.
So far I love it - especially the wisecracks!
Edit note: It works fine on a mac... WooHoo! All these years I thought these scenarios wouldn't work. I restarted and my missing longbowman converted. He wouldn't convert in my first game.
And this scenario is AWESOME![Edited on 07/17/10 @ 10:02 PM]

Lord Basse, u'r game is just amazing, i confess i'm spending several hours enjoyng this formidable campaign.
ok, but i have a few comments:
- i can reach the "possessed sabertooth"(and the 3 leopards and the pikemen and the ship) by using the siege onager to destroy the trees... nothing happens however! and would not call it a bug.
Edit:
sorry, i forgot to ask about the "militaires buildings in the flagged spot" from the optional objectives.... no matter what kind of facility (archery, castle, tower, stables, etc) or if i build inside or over the flags, the objective is not fulfilled!
what have i done wrong?
by now, i'm atacking the capitol and xaphyra had call me to talk alone, i did, but i died!!!
ok, than i guess i just needed raze the capitol first... well, but i couldn't fix the second bridge.
so, going back to xaphyra i think that i cheat somehow because the only way i find out to talk without be killed was to build a wall in between them. was this a cheat?
due i haven't finnished yet i will not comment the campaign in details, but it already reached the level of Ulio and Dracula(the 2 "top of the tops" campaigns ever!) in enjoyable, storyline and aweness. in my modest view.
i even prefer urs to Tamerlane and Mcbeth.
tanxs for the marvelous campaign
... and possible little help!
but, all in all the map is one of the bests i have ever played! congrats, Lord Basse! u rule![Edited on 07/18/10 @ 09:14 AM]

It is amazing how much hard work has been done for this scenario... I bet you've been designing it for months! It's excelent, with a sweet story, wealthy terrain, great characters, full of secrets and is fun to play.
But, I have 2 questions:
1) Why did you make the love story between Jane and Larry and like this?? :/
2) How do I go to Xaphira's Capital? I found a river guard and a transport, but when i get my heroes near him nothing happends :(
Thanks for your time, and again Grats for your hard work :)
*****(5 stars)
Edit:
Nah i got through it :)
Finally, after a long playing time i finished this EPIC scenario :)
I can't tell more, i don't want to spoil the story to the downloaders, but i hope you make more scenarios like that ;)[Edited on 07/22/10 @ 01:23 AM]

One thing, I have defeated the enemy at Selenir and the mayor will not talk to me with my heroes near him.
Could you please tell me how I can talk to the mayor? I have done all objectives so far apart from the optional quest and 'talk to the mayor'.
Thanks |
