King's Bounty
A Vision Studio production
By Sir Matthias

In this fictional campaign, you play the roll of King Arthur ,(British) who faces off with King Charles of France, who is bent on capturing the remnant of the British army located in London.

PLAYABILITY: An enjoyable game that starts off dead smack in the middle of a battle, which prompts an immediate response, and fast thinking, so expect a little game saving. There are numerous sidequests, which will provide you the needed resources to build up a strong army. The french has an ally (Bandits) that are placed all over the map, and will keep you on your toes. Your approach to these ones are important if you plan on keeping most of your units for the final battle. The resistance I met up with along my journey offered up some decent fighting which called for some careful maneuvering of troops. I did not encounter any bugs whatsoever throughout the entire game.

BALANCE: The Campaign offers 3 levels of difficulty, mostly technological advances decreasing from one level to another, hard having none whatsoever. I had a castle that was only attacked once during the beginning of the game, so healing was not a problem, just time consuming. The sidequests were on the generous side, and allowed me to build a large and strong army that encountered moderate difficulty when defeating the French at the last battle. I felt that the hard difficulty setting could have been a bit harder for my liking. Before the final battle, I used the Castle in London to heal all my units, which gave me an edge over my enemy. I could have chosen to keep my monk which was suppose to die, and avoid the long trek back to London, but in all fairness I wanted to see how the game played out as the author intended.

CREATIVITY: There is a nice blend of creativity to be had. The sound and songs were well done, and there is even a little voice acting. In London you will be hearing a variety of different types of music which I found to be a nice additive to the game enjoyment. You can make purchases of upgrades, in a few areas, or buy fighters for latter battles. You’ll have to play the game to see the rest.

MAP DESIGN: The map was well done, and included some nice eye candy in various locations. I did find that one french position with a tower to the north of my castle was too close,to my walls, and took away from a natural look. Other than that the map felt realistic, and played good.

STORY/INSTRUCTION: An excellent story provided before the game and during the game. The instructions were easy to follow for the most part except for a little confusion about villagers.
The General hints at the beginning says that you cannot build more buildings and villagers, so defend what you have. However, you have no villagers at all in the game, but I kept looking, thinking that some would be provided through diplomacy change or Gaia. The author probably meant to say that you cannot build more buildings or create villagers. Not a big deal, but it threw me off a little at first. The Author added more than enough in the way of hints and scout, so you will not want in that area.4.5

Well done Sir Matthias, and the gang at Vision Studios
