Friar

Author File Description
Achesun
File Details
Version: The Conquerors
Screenshot:
This is the latest unit I submitted for the Robin Hood modpack, Age of Sherwood, a friar unit that replace the Aztec/Mayan monks, and will also be one of the Sherwood heroes, Friar Tuck. In this file, there are the .slp files of the friar, three Icons(1 for the unit and two different hero icons), and a MPS Script file for testing this unit in game.

Thanks for downloading, and Reviews and comments are much welcomed!!

Version 1.1: fixed a little bug in the walking scene.

Khan Ivayl This looks great! Can I use and alter this for Age of Vampires? Could make it into a ghoul! :) Either way: thumbs up!

EDIT: Mission accomplished, our Ghoul replaces the Aztec/Mayan Trade Cart in Age of Vampires...

Thanks Khan Ivayl. Sure you can use it in your mod. Would be interesting to see how it will turn into a ghoul!

Rating: The Monk by Achesun is a nice unit, created for Possidons Age of Sherwood mod pack. It replaces the aztec monk. The unit looks very good, although some of the frames seem a bit unrealistic. Also some of the anchors in the converting graphic are a bit out of place. 3.5

In Closing - A very nice modpack, download recommended.

Thanks for the review, dragonslayer! I'll try to find out the wrong anchors and fix them.

(Inspite of minor anchor deviations, the Friar is a very nice unit, whose bodyposture and movements make him suitable for playing different roles. In addition to being a servant of God, with only few graphical changes this unit can be made to represent Quasimodo, Igor, a random Ghoul, mad scientist or Gargamel. I am confident that this unit will be integrated in many Mods in the one or other alter-ego.)

This new Friar unit was created by Achesun for the abandoned Age of Sherwood conversion mod. Age if Sherwood was a planned mod pack based upon the legend of Robin Hood. This unit was to replace the monk and also the hero Friar Tuck, one of Robin Hood’s famous Merry Men.

This unit accurately represents a medieval friar and how the character of Friar Tuck is portrayed in many adaptations of the legend of Robin Hood. Complete with brown roads and a balding head of hair, the u it can be quite undefined for anyone who would like to add a more accurate monk unit into their scenarios or medieval mod packs. The unit can also have many uses for those with more creative thinking. The unit comes with a selection of icons, one for the base unit and two for the Friar Tuck hero. There is also a small bit of player colour around the units belt but can be difficult to view for some players at certain angles. The unit also has new slps for carrying relics as well.

The quality of the unit is where some of the problems lie. Whilst the unit is well made, there are some elements that make it look unrealistic or a bit silly. The unit is made I paint and Achesun actually drew each frame himself by hand, using an existing unit as a base. I have to commend him for this as this is a very difficult task which takes many hours of hard work and patience. However, the unit looks as though it is hunchbacked and it’s arms seem to be really thin in comparison to his fat body. It’s does blend well into the game but can seem out of place when stood next to some other units.

Overall a nice edition to the editor but with a little bit more work needed to make it fit in perfectly.

Thanks
Possidon
