Advanced Genie Editor
for Age of Empires, Rise of Rome (including DE), Age of Kings, The Conquerors (including DE), Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Clone Campaigns.
This is a program for editing data of genie (DAT and DLL) files. It can edit properties of units, civilizations, technologies, graphics, terrains, sounds, player colors and some other things.
Please, ask questions on the forums.
Check out this program also. It's for graphical modding.

Notes
Make your own backups or use the auto-backup feature!
Extract to anywhere and run. No help files are included.
You may need to run the program as administrator if your game is installed in a protected folder.
You may be able to undo changes by going back to the text box and pressing Ctrl + Z.
Tips
You can have multiple search entries separated with "|" letter.
Upper search boxes are inclusive and lower ones exclusive.
Example: "tower|ship|ram"
Use the check boxes to toggle matching between all and any entries.

The empires2_x2_p1 is Forgotten Empires file. Maybe try to run this editor as admin? |

Help! All I want to do is edit some unit variables in AOE 2 HD. I'd like to make the Japanese Elite Samurai a hero with increased speed.
I open the editor, load empires2_x1_p1, make the changes, save/overwrite the file. But when I load the game up, its as if the changes never saved.
Please let me know what is going wrong! Is this a Steam issue? Why won't the changes "take"? |

Try to run AGE as admin.
If you search your entire C drive for empires2_x1_p1, can you find more than 1 occurrence?
Are you playing Forgotten Empires, but editing only the base game files?
When you open your saved file with AGE, can you see that the edits have actually saved?
It isn't a Steam issue, unless you are subscribing certain mods. |

Hi
I've been trying to alter a civ in AOE RoR to provide -15% Gold cost for all research technologies.
I've been trying 101 - Research Cost Modifier ... but I'm thinking this feature might only works for AoK? Can anyone advise me please? thx |

I am currently making a mod and I have changed the Icon graphics to (2) but I was wondering if you could change the Building Graphics as well using AGE. If not, what utilities can?[Edited on 03/23/15 @ 09:40 PM]

I dunno. Maybe that is Forgotten Empires special unit? I hear there are two oriental swordsmen.

You are correct. As far as I remember, in AoE 1 those 101 and 103 tech effects work only for the technology tree tech listed under Civs tab.
@Epd999
You can change building graphics, but you need to do it manually for each civ or check "including graphics" at the top on options in Units tab.
If you want new graphics you need to create their SLPs and maybe import them into DRS files with other tools, such as Turtle Pack. Then you need to create graphics entry for them with this tool so that you can finally assign those new SLPs to your buildings. |

I want to ask. What the fuction of Deafult Armour, and what the effect if I set it >1000 ?. |

Default armor is applied against attacks that your unit has no specific armor for. Over 1000 has no effect unless some of your attacks are over 1000, that have no armor pair on the victim unit. |
