Advanced Genie Editor
for Age of Empires, Rise of Rome (including DE), Age of Kings, The Conquerors (including DE), Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Clone Campaigns.
This is a program for editing data of genie (DAT and DLL) files. It can edit properties of units, civilizations, technologies, graphics, terrains, sounds, player colors and some other things.
Please, ask questions on the forums.
Check out this program also. It's for graphical modding.
For editing language files in The Conquerors,

Notes
Make your own backups or use the auto-backup feature!
Extract to anywhere and run. No help files are included.
You may need to run the program as administrator if your game is installed in a protected folder.
You may be able to undo changes by going back to the text box and pressing Ctrl + Z.
Tips
You can have multiple search entries separated with "|" letter.
Upper search boxes are inclusive and lower ones exclusive.
Example: "tower|ship|ram"
Use the check boxes to toggle matching between all and any entries.

Congrats for this impressive software, really.
I'd like to help in this, I tried to sign up in the wiki but it's locked.
How may I create an account ?
I noticed some information was lost in the last version. The 2nd field in the old "hot key" section disappeared. It stands for a help text displayed according to the unit.
For example, where could I share this information ?
I'm also capable of helping in software development if needed (and if I find enough time ;) |

The wiki is probably dead.
No variables were lost in the last version. I just changed them to better ones. You can share this kind of information in Advanced Genie Editor Forum Topic and I'll add relevant info to AGE 2 as tool tips.
If you want to help in development, people have been requesting an undoing function and a batch property editor. Like you could select into which unit you want one variable to be copied. I have no plans to sacrifice time for making those myself. |

I don't think using it is the problem, but the knowledge of what it can edit. Seek articles from the university or ask questions in the modding forum. Remember to read the tooltips also. |

The Tech. Tree part is a little confusing. How do I edit the technology tree for a civilization? AGE 1.7 specified which civilizations had what technologies available. Here, although there is great detail about the units and the research and tech. available in each age, I cannot seem to figure out how to change it for a particular civilization. I would appreciate any sort of help in this regard. |

I don't know how you edit it for only certain civilizations.
AGE 1s cannot edit technology trees at all (I discovered that data myself long after the latest AGE 1 release).
It's very tricky to edit because a lot of things in there are hardcoded into the game executable even though they exist in the dat file.
Besides, the technology tree is simply the tree shown in the game, so it's just a visual eye candy.
If you really want to change what technologies each civilization has, edit the researches, technologies and civilizations tabs in AGE 2. |

Thanks. I got it. I used to edit the Tech. Tree using AGE 1.7. Its the same for AGE 2.40 also. Under the Technologies tab, there is tech tree for each civilization and what is disabled and what is not can be edited easily. Great Editor though. The description of certain things and inclusion of dll files is amazing. |
