Advanced Genie Editor
for Age of Empires, Rise of Rome (including DE), Age of Kings, The Conquerors (including DE), Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Clone Campaigns.
This is a program for editing data of genie (DAT and DLL) files. It can edit properties of units, civilizations, technologies, graphics, terrains, sounds, player colors and some other things.
Please, ask questions on the forums.
Check out this program also. It's for graphical modding.

Notes
Make your own backups or use the auto-backup feature!
Extract to anywhere and run. No help files are included.
You may need to run the program as administrator if your game is installed in a protected folder.
You may be able to undo changes by going back to the text box and pressing Ctrl + Z.
Tips
You can have multiple search entries separated with "|" letter.
Upper search boxes are inclusive and lower ones exclusive.
Example: "tower|ship|ram"
Use the check boxes to toggle matching between all and any entries.

With the default AGE 3 settings, you can simply change the graphic indexes for different civilizations of the same unit. So even though Vikings have same graphics as some other civilizations, you can simply change them to have different graphics. Or do you want to have completely separate buildings like in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds? So that you can select the building of any civilization in the scenario editor.
To get new buildings to show up you need to check their "no research" check box or make a research+tech pair to make the building available in the villager's build menu. |

This is one great program. I'm just having a little trouble with attempting to make archers fire out from a battering ram, transport ship, etc. Also attempting to have war ships with the load and unload options but I'm failing miserably. Help please. |

The load and unload options are perhaps part of the unit class or unit attribute (I dunno).
For garrisoned units to fire, have you tried to change min and max garrisoned duplicate projectiles (or something like that)? Have you set the duplicated missile unit?
It's possible that the things you described are not possible. You may have better luck asking these things in the scenario design and modding forum. |

This program is great!
A Question: is there a way to make all villagers; miners, lumberjacks, farmers, foragers, fishermen, hunters, builders and repairers different unit types?
Example: i want to make a HUNTER an archer unit that can gather food from animals that it kills and can kill animals without that the animal becomes unusable so you can not gather food from it, but if i change it to civilian class it will change to a fisherman as soon as i click on a fish.
how do i make it so that the HUNTER doesn't change villager type when i click on a fish, tree, mine, farm?

You can experiment with setting their villager mode to 0, or to 3+ etc.
But then you need to have separate buttons to create them from a building.
If you want to convert any archer etc to hunter, you can try to copy villager hunter's hunting abilities (unit commands) to the archer unit. I haven't tested this. If you make new discoveries on unit commands, please post them here (or on the forums). So I can update AGE's tool tips and labels. |

Rage.... I came here to ask for help then I decided to think. For anyone trying to rename units in AoK:HD there's a text file named "language_base.txt" located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age2HD\Bin
I believe that it only takes a simple edit to the text file and then the matching of your new unit to the language.dll ID found in AGE... I'll edit in a few minutes if I'm successfull :D

I am having one small problem though... I'm trying to rename 3 researches and give them new descriptions, Which works fine except for the transparent black box in which the text is usually displayed on doesn't appear and the text instead ends up going under the main lower interface..
Here's my current setup:
Names:
7942 "Research City Streets"
7943 "Research Public Transportation"
7944 "Research Private Transportation"
Descriptions:
8440 "Research City Streets\nCity wide roads have allowed for more people to be in a smaller area."
8441 "Research Public Transportation\nPublic transportation has allowed for more people to move freely"
8442 "Research Private Transportation\nPrivate transportation has allowed larger families to move into developing towns."
Unknown popup thing:
28247 "Research City Streets () \nCity wide roads have allowed for more people to be in a smaller area."
28248 "Research Public Transportation () \nPublic transportation has allowed for more people to move freely"
28249 "Research Private Transportation () \nPrivate transportation has allowed larger families to move into developing towns."

After all that I go to test in game and I get this:

I added in the text popup that's boxed in with a red outline, To the left of it there is one of the new researches and it's display.
So... Is there anything I'm missing or should change to get the faded black box for the technology description?
Edit: There was also some Bolding code in the Unknown popup section but that disappeared upon post :L

Incorrect display location could be a bug in HD.
Your descriptions should be 8942, 8943, 8944 and your popup things should be 28942, 28943, 28944. Not sure if it works like that in HD anymore. The last three digits should be same for all different language entries. |
