PLAYABILITY
King Arthur's Knight Quest is a passable campaign -- barely. A classic RPG, you must guide King Arthur, his bride Guenevere, and the Sage Merlin on a quest to find Morgana la Fay's castle and rescue your trapped knights. Along the way there are villages, rival knights, and more enemies then you can poke a stick at. I found that it was a bit boring, and having to constantly fight every step you moved got very irritating. Bandits were placed excessively, and you had to stop and heal every few seconds.
For this: I dispense a 3.
BALANCE
KAKQ is reasonably balanced, meaning that it is possible to lose, but you will survive if you keep your wits about you. I found that you could just let your overbeefed Queen Guenevere run off ahead and kill all of the bandits in the road ahead, and let here get healed by Merlin. Speaking of Merlin, he causes a bit of a balance problem. There is a scene in the campaign where you must fight a duel with the Green Knight. However, I just converted him with Merlin, and got myself an extra powerful unit. It is a small error, but an obvious one.
For this: I dispense a 4.
CREATIVITY
There is little new in KAKQ, it is just a typical slash-em-up RPG with no innovation. Of course, there is a side quest, but nothing much. You must find a farmer's lost turkeys and dog. The side quest was easy to complete, and I didn't even have to bring the animals back to the farmer. It makes it seem very unrealistic.
For this: I dispense a 2.
MAP DESIGN
OK, I suppose. Dead trees were placed to simulate a spooky forest, and towns and villages were designed well. However, the map is mainly just forest, grass1, and road. No real variation on that theme. It was mixed so that it looks OK, but it is still obvious that not very much time went into the map.
For this: I dispense a 3.
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS
KAKQ is loosely based on the mythical figure of King Arthur, but it isn't true to the myth. While Arthur, Guenevere, and Morgana la Fay were all part of the myth, nothing else in this campaign reflects it. Instructions could have been better, I was stuck at the bit where I had to across the river, and it took me a few restarts before I figured out the answer.
For this: I dispense a 3.
ENDING NOTES
Download this campaign by all means, I think you'll like it. While it could have been better, it overall was a decent effort. |
