Vlad Dracula
Vlad Dracula
DESCRIPTION:
The 15th century was a violent time. Wars and famines were as usual as terrible
tortures. Constantinople, the last defence against Islam fell and the Ottomans
invaded Europe. On their way they fought against Serbia, Hungary and the little
kingdom of Wallachia. So it's not astonishing that such a bloody ruler reigned
during this brutal time.
In 1431 AD a son is born for the voivode (Wallachian ruler title) Vlad II and
gets the name Vlad as well. Vlad II is called Dracul, meaning "dragon"
in the Romanian language. For he is a member of the Order of the Dragon, a
secret organisation with the aim of protecting the christianity. Therefore his
son will be later called "Dracula", it means "son of the dragon".
But "Dracul" has another meaning, it's "devil"...
Dracula's childhood is hard. His father is murdered when he's 17, at the same
time his brother is blinded and buried alive. And when Dracula seizes the throne
much later he executes thousands of people, his popular method is the impaling.
This is when a dull stake is rammed into a person's backside and erected. The
stake destroys the inner organs and it takes often days until the victim dies.
It's because of this cruel punishment that Dracula was called Vlad Tepes (pronounciation:
Tsepesh), Vlad the Impaler.
One time he impales 20 000 Turkish prisoners in front of his capital and calls
it sarcastically "the impaled forest". When the Turkish sultan watches
this scene, he and his army turn around, in spite of a 3:1 advantage...
This scenario is an RPS game about the turbulent life of Vlad Dracula. There are
three possible outcomings, Dracula becomes a vampire in one of them.
I created this scenario originally in German. That's a translation (the sound
and trigger names are still German). So I apologize for all the mistakes that
surely have occured. You can find the original version at www.agearena.de

Wow! I didn't think a simple villager (scuse me to don't write very well, i'm french) can fear me! It's an incredible campaign!
For Vittorini and all others:
The sword of Attila is to the west of the Vladislav's castle, near the river. (it's a grey torch). |

Playability: 3
This scenario is broken up into 7 stages with their respective mission goals. Up to the 4th stage the scenario is fun and much enjoyable.
Balance: 2
Balance is good until the 5th stage, The War Against the Turks, which stage is hugely unbalanced. I could not get through the 5th even after repeated attempts on Moderate difficulty. It was disappointing, since I have taken time consuming preparations, and achieved everything that the HINTS suggested before the huge Turkish force arrived and wiped out the mission critical castle. Hence, I cannot say anything about the remaining two stages (6th and 7th).
Creativity: 4
Definitely creative, up to the 5th stage.
Map Design: 5
Map looks very good, and I also liked the lit spots where the beautiful scenery were made.
Story/Instructions: 3
I usually do not play scenarios for stories. I prefer novels and history books for that end, so my review refers to instructions here. There are some misleading instructions, but nothing too serious. During the 4th stage for instance achievements of of otherwise unrelated goals did matter, so it needed a restart for me.

This is a very good scenario with a lot of action, very good story (with 100% accuracy about the Wallachian - Turkish war). Moreover the plot is extremely good and interesting, because as the action continues some great quests came up, as the Roman gold, the german - wallachian trade, the clearing of the woods by the beasts, the sword of Attila, the Judas Bible and many else. Finally not to mention about the sound files, was just awesome! The sounds made the game to like a horror movie!
It is just a masterpiece![Edited on 06/04/12 @ 10:13 AM]

I have a different problem.
At the end of Part IV, just after I set the Town Center on fire with all the sick and poor people, Vlad will, presumably, switch to another player but now I have no units and it says that I'm defeated. It doesn't seem like a specific trigger bug as I will sometimes see the talking for the upcoming cutscene but it always defeats me before I can do anything. The problem seems to be that there aren't any backup units to prevent my being defeated and I don't know how to work around this. I can keep a villager alive and the triggers with the TC burning and Vlad talking still work but it won't advance the game unless I delete the villager.
I know that this scenario has been on here a long time and it's been ages since anyone posted on here but I can't get any further in it and I really want to play the rest of it. |
