Author's Description from the earlier version:
This is my Fall of Constantinople level-heres a look at whats inside.
A map of the city using my level (zoom in to get a better look)
The scx. file for my city so you may edit it to your liking.
And the best part-the scenario itself!
Here's a little about the scenario.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
Emperor Constantine XI: The Byzantine Emperor at the time, you must potect him because he gives the men courage to fight against the Ottomans.
Sultan Mehmed II: The young Turkish Sultan in command of the army, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal of capturing the city, you don't have to kill him-just defeat his army.
Giustiniani: The commander of the Geonoese troops sent to help the Byzantines he has a lot of well-trained soldiers.
STORYLINE: In 1453 Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II besieged Constantinople. Emperor Constantine held off the Ottoman for 7 weeks until the Ottomans broke through Saint Romanus' Gate a stormed the city. Before any of this happened the Geonose and Venetians sent reinforcements to aid the Byzantines. Giustiniani was the commander of these Italian troops, he died during battle. Although reinforcements did arrive during the siege a small convoy of Greek and Italian ships battle the Ottoman Navy these ships were huge and they punded the smaller Ottoman ships to pieces and were greeting by thousands upon thousands of cheering citizens on the sea-walls, Mehmed himself watched the spectacle and was shocked at the European ships pouund his navy into the sea. Once the gate was broken the Byzantines had no chance although some fought heroicly-such as Giustiniani's troops and the famous Cretan soldiers they were soon overwhelmed. Refugees fled to the Port Area near the Golden Horn and managed to escape. But after a while the Ottoman Navy blockaded the Golden Horn. Mehmeds soldiers soon started looting, they killed everyone they could find and ripped apart homes, they even slayed the cities priests and priestesses. Although it was then that the Ottoman Navy made the stupidest mistake of their lives, the Ottoman sailors were afraid they would not get to loot the city, came out of their ships and started looting. Meanwhile leaving the Golden Horn unguarded. At this thousands f fleeing refugees raced to ward the docks where a brave squad of Greek troops were manning three defense towers which were holding off the Ottomans allowing thousands of people-soldiers and citizens to escape. That evacuation was the "medieval Dunkirk." The last traces of Roman power were over. But my scenarios gives you a chance to rewrite history and save the Eastern Roman Empire! |

Hey, I d/l your scenario, and I have some comments and suggestions.
Map: 5.0 Couldn't of done it better myself. Very Nice. My only suggestion is replace some of the palm trees in the city with oak trees, since the trees outside the city are oaks, and I don't think that region is that lush. The city was beautiful.
Story/Instructions: 3.0 Could definantly be better. You could have included more history about who the Ottomans were, why they were attacking Constantinople, where Constantinople is; It is just unclear why this battle is being fought. Somehow the Roman Emporer saying "Goody goody Gumdrops" when reiforcements arrive seems... Well, weird. Also some of the other words used aren't historically acccurate. I'm quite sure that Sultan Mehmed II never said "Those bastards aren't giving up, reserve troops ATTACK!" I would have changed it to this: "The enemy is still standing! Kill them, you fools!" Also, "Alright I want a full scale attack, all troops, CHARGE!" would be less modern and more profound like this: "They are weakened, and we are still strong! Constantinople falls today! All men, Charge!"
Balance: 3.0 It's too easy. Suggestions: The Camel/Bombard Cannon combo is tough to counter, add more of it. Give player 1 less archers. Give the Turks some ranged units, preferably Mmamelukes and Skirmishers. Make a trigger giving all turk units +25 HP. Don't have the them retreat at the end. They had enough BCs left when they retreated to do some serious damage.
Playability: 2.5 I encountered quite a few playability bugs and problems. 1.) Make the Turks attack later. The city is so big that you need to give the player several minutes to find all of his units and prepare for the attack. 2.) After the turks Retreated, I didn't win. Not even after I defeated them. I had to quit because It never said I was victorious. You need to fix that. 3.) Also, was there supposed to be a naval battle? Because there wasn't one. The Ottoman Navy did absolutely nothing except move to the corner of the map at the end. 4.) When I Marco-Poloed at the end, I discovered that the Cyan player had a big city, but played no part in the battle other than the reinforcements at the begining. Is that a bug? Another small issue is that you should use "Change View" to show were the reinforcements arrive, and were the Emperor is, (It took me forever to find him) and other things. That is another reason you should have more time before the first attack.
Enjoyment: 4.0 I had a good time playing this scenario, and I think most people would too, especially after you make some ^changes^.
Overall: 3.5 Nice Job EJ, but make some changes and fix some bugs and the Public Version will DEFINANTLY be worth the download. Heck, It's worth the download just for the map :). |

Fall of Constantinople-GOLD EDITION is a single scenario, a FF, events, city and characters are historical, mark the end of the Byzantine Empire and the beginning of the Ottoman one. The siege lasted from April 5 to May 29, 1453, when Mehmed II led an army of 150'000 Turks against Emperor Constantine IX defending heroically Constantinople for seven weeks with only 7000 soldiers, among them 5000 Greeks, while Cretans and Venetians were the strongest foreign defenders. You play the Byzantine side and get the chance to rewrite history, save the East Roman Empire!
PLAYABILITY: The scenario is fun game play in the beginning, the enemy attacks, historically after a refused surrender, with bombard canons, while you search with hot key ',' for your military in the large city to direct them to the gates. After your cavalry arrived and took out the bombard canons the excitement is over, the scenario gets too easy. Some trigger failures from the first version are fixed, but there are still playability issues, trigger and diplomacy errors. The game crashed a couple of times before the last attack. When I could play until the Ottoman retreat, I did not get a victory signal, even after defeating the last enemy soldier and navy. The army gathers at the edge of the map on lower levels, but attacks again on hard. I also missed the naval battle, the whole Ottoman Navy just retreats to the south corner of the map. 2+
BALANCE: I played the scenario on hard and it was too easy, exception to the first surprise attack. The forth attack for example, the enemy attacks with infantry against walls, towers and castles, without support of range units and siege weapons. The scenario improved from its first version, more effort went into the map, but not all improved the game play. The additional castle and barracks in the east attract the enemy and he splits up his forces to hurt the balance even more. The Ottoman army cannot put enough pressure against the city gates, some units never change ownership, others do not attack, trees and units in their way. As the enemy did not manage to take the gates down, I deleted them to be historical accurate, but still they never had more than three units inside the walls. Finally I watched the game as a cut-scene on hard, you simply cannot loose. 2
CREATIVITY: Difficult to rate, the map of Constantinople, which is creative, accurate by its outlines with some renamed buildings and gates is to mention. 3
MAP DESIGN: Above average, design of city and landscape, but overall unrealistic, especially for a historic scenario. While in the city there are palm trees and jungle, the oak is predominant outside the walls. In the city are too many military buildings instead of churches for example and the military buildings not needed for game play. 4-
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Not much of a story, but the scenario presents a good history section, hints, author's description and clear objectives. 4
OVERALL: It is a promising scenario, which needs more effort.
OBSERVATIONS: With regard to the crash problem, I played the scenario with a P4/1,8 GHZ, 256 MB RAM, 54,5 GB HD, which is enough for 3D. The author announced that the zip contains a .cpx, a .scx and AI files. There is only a .scx file, fortunately, that does not influence the game play as the AI files save in the .scx file. If you edit the scenario, you need Immobile Units Gold in your AI folder.
SUGGESTIONS: Edit your scenario, crash fix, trigger "5th Ottoman Attack", effect 2 tasks all player 4 units on the map that are too many. Set an area like in effect 0, here for the camel riders. The same for trigger "army retreat", if the player is inactive and does not lower the enemy units significantly, the game might crash, create more effects for the retreat and set areas to divide the map for the retreat. Victory signal, trigger "Final Talking", effect 1 activate trigger "Win Level" instead of "Final Talking", mixed up by error, 'final talking' is just above 'win level' in your trigger list. To have units retreat and disappear, trigger "Delete ships", looping, change from 'No' to 'Yes', trigger "Army deleted", looping, change from 'No' to 'Yes'. To improve balance, set players 3 and 4 to post imperial, place units for earlier attacks front and later attacks in the rear, have siege weapons (rams, onagers, scorpions, trebuchets), range units (skirmishers, more janissaries, foot and mounted archers) and have them attack early. You could have another enemy comp player with spawn points. To avoid that the enemy splits his forces, have another comp player, player 1 color, ally to all for the buildings and walls for the area in the east or a looping task trigger that sends the enemy back to the gates of Constantinople. Set the naval forces to standard instead of Immobile Units Gold, some canon galleons would help, and to have them attack, change the diplomacy between player 2 and 1 from neutral to enemy and between 2 and 3/4 from enemy to ally.
IN CLOSING: I do not recommend the scenario before an edit. |

I liked your campaign, incredibly deatailed, the map of Constantinople is highly detailed, excelent work, except for some irritating bugs and lags, all you need to do to improve it is to fix up those bugs nothing more, consgratulations ! |

You did not make this map, some other dude made this map where you are the turks and have waves of attacks...
anyway it was cool, but way too easy. I basically did one cavalry charge against their bombards and I crippled their attack.
then the game crashed later on. |
