I have tried to create a Black Forest style map but with a couple of rivers snaking through the middle. You may be separated from the other players by water, or you might on the same piece of land as an ally ... or an enemy. In any case, the rivers provide an extra dimension beyond your standard Black Forest experience. Often it may not be enough to just wall off the shallows.
What's new:
>This map now supports the Definitive Edition and also WololoKingdoms!
>Reeds will block the beaches instead of rocks if you play on the Definitive Edition
>Even more biome variation
>Download includes previous versions of the script in the old versions folder
v3.2
-fixed elevation scaling
-Updated LR version for DE
v3.1
-minor tweaks to beach generation and resource distribution
-adds koth resource trickle for DE
v3.0
Remastered for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
v2.2
rocks no prevent units from walking along the 1-tile-wide beaches between the forests and the rivers.
v2.1
minor bugfixes
This is a random map script, so it will be different every time and should scale reasonably well to every map size and any number of players.
To play, place the script in the random folder and then choose the following when setting up a match:
Map style - Custom
Location - ZN@BF_Rivers_v3
Get this map for the Definitive Edition
This map is also in the Steam Workshop where you can find more screenshots.
Known issues:
The starting areas can sometimes very small and cramped. I have tried to reduce the frequency of this happening, but there is no way I can completely prevent it without ruining the feeling of the forest. This can sometimes impair AI performance.
This map can be unbalanced at times, and is intended for casual play rather than competitive games.
As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated so that I can fix bugs and improve my maps.

I noticed that there is a large tendency for players to only have one entrance into their base - an entrance that can be walled off fairly easily. This makes flushing very easy - and trushing moreso than normal - which is a small plus as I need practice with my flush :P
It's exactly what it says on the tin - black forest with rivers. Because of the lack of large numbers of crossings and the fact that rivers are all connected it means the Koreans & their Turtle Ships have a decisive advantage.
Good usage of the rocks to stop pathfinding bugginess.
Overall, well done - a nice balanced change-from-boring-ES map!

Black Forest Rivers is Zetnus’ attempt to recreate the standard Black Forest map with a twist. That twist being the inclusion of criss crossing rivers cutting through the dense forest to create an entirely different game.
Theme: 5.0
The script serves its theme very well as it looks exactly like what the author intended, a Black Forest with winding rivers. The random map is well designed and fits its theme and purpose really well. It create a unique twist on the Black Forest map and also completely changes the game style of the map. One popular way of playing the standard Black Forest map is to use the trees to your advantage and wall up the gaps between the trees with thick walls to hold back invading forces. This version completely upends that strategy as there are coastlines to defend and large gaps between trees to stop this process working. Now it is about rushing, being the first to control the rivers with your navy and the fastest to build suitable defences and ground forces to conqueror the masses.
Visual Appeal: 4.0
The Random Map is visually pleasing to the eye with a nice blend of different forest design styles and terrain, utilising different types of grass, leaves and forest trees as well as water and shallows for the rivers and crossing. On the most part the map looks really nice, much better than the standard Black Forest map, even without the addition of rivers. There are minor things that don’t look so good, and that comes to a couple of bugs such as trees blocking the shallow crossings and a few bland areas but on the most part it looks really good.
Playability: 4.0
I’m a huge fan of Black Forest maps and this just adds a cherry on top to make it even more appealing. The games are incredibly fun and as I said previously the map creates a unique style of game. It had a blast playing this map a number of times with different civilisations and used different tactics and techniques in each. There are a few little issues with the script, mainly pathfinding bugs and balancing issues. Just like the standard Black Forest game can be much easier for wood-reliant civilisations, but this game also really helps those civs that have a strong navy, such as the Koreans, whose expensive War Wagons and Turtle Ships can be easily build by chopping won enough forest and therefore can easily overpower weaker players.
Additional Comments:
Though not without a few balancing issues, this is defiantly a recommenced download as it is great fun. Whether you’re a fan of Black Forest or not, this is defiantly worth checking out.
Thanks
