I have tried to create a Black Forest style map but with a couple of rivers snaking through the middle. You may be separated from the other players by water, or you might on the same piece of land as an ally ... or an enemy. In any case, the rivers provide an extra dimension beyond your standard Black Forest experience. Often it may not be enough to just wall off the shallows.
>A single map now encompasses five different biomes: Northern, Temperate, Asian, Frozen, and Jungle. If you dislike single ones and want to disable them, that's quite easy to do if you open up the script.
>The combined map has an amount of forest that lies between the standard BF Rivers and the Open Edition.
>More randomization of forest and land distribution
>Script has been tidied up and standardized
>LudiKRIS map size is now fully supported (warning - it takes a long time to load this size)
>Download includes both the normal version and a version with a ludicrous amount of resources (LR)
>The original scripts are in the old versions folder
>v2.1 minor bugfixes
>v2.2 rocks no prevent units from walking along the 1-tile-wide beaches between the forests and the rivers.
This is a random map script, so it will be different every time and should scale reasonably well to every map size and any number of players.
To play, place the script in the random folder and then choose the following when setting up a match:
Map style - Custom
Location - ZN@BF_Rivers_v2.3
(or ZN@BF_Rivers_LR_v2.3 if you want to have an insane amount of resources)
The starting areas can sometimes very small and cramped. I have tried to reduce the frequency of this happening, but there is no way I can completely prevent it without ruining the feeling of the forest. This can sometimes impair AI performance.
This map can be unbalanced at times, and is intended for casual play rather than competitive games.
As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated so that I can fix bugs and improve my maps.
I noticed that there is a large tendency for players to only have one entrance into their base - an entrance that can be walled off fairly easily. This makes flushing very easy - and trushing moreso than normal - which is a small plus as I need practice with my flush :P
It's exactly what it says on the tin - black forest with rivers. Because of the lack of large numbers of crossings and the fact that rivers are all connected it means the Koreans & their Turtle Ships have a decisive advantage.
Good usage of the rocks to stop pathfinding bugginess.
Overall, well done - a nice balanced change-from-boring-ES map!
