Belisarius by: Mk101
Belisarius is a campaign about the life of the Byzantine General Belisarius who recaptured the former Roman territories for Emperor Justinian I. He dealt with the Vandals and other Barbarian tribes and finally recaptured the former Roman territories.
The campaign is composed by three scenarios. The first scenario, you have to control Belisarius(dismounted) and a band of mercenaries and defeat the barbarians attacking Rome. It’s pretty simple. I got the the Cathedral burning a little, but not much. Destroying the Barbarian base was too simple. I just used the units left from my mercenaries. The second scenario you have to defeat the two Persian city-states. The first one(red) is WAY too simple. The author gives the player a hint that the green Persian City-state cannot be defeated, that’s true. One of the objectives was that Belisarius (mounted) had to survive. To do so, I just kept him in Constantinople. Dealing with the Rebels at the end was too easy. I just sent my Cataphracts against them. They were dead meat!! The last scenario offers more challenge than the two others. Just send your starting units to kill the nephew then build up your forces to defeat the Vandals. Took me around 10 min to beat it. Belisarius offers no challenge to any experienced player or any veterans, however n00bs and newbie’s might find this a little challenging. For this I give a 2.5.
This was perhaps the weakest point in this campaign! There was no real challenge, except at the last scenario. Also the missions were too simple! I suggest that the author adds a difficulty system and perhaps make this somehow more challenging. For this I give a 2.
Not much, butt he author had at least some! Like the Barbarians attacking the city of Rome at the beginning and the Green Persian City-State at the second scenario which is impossible to defeat. The last scenario was creative in the way that the player had to kill the nephew to gain control over Sicily, and the player simply had to gain control over it!
For this I give a 3.
What is there to say here? The campaign lacked with eye-candy! There was simply just some different terrians on the different places. Mostly of the map was either grass or desert. I suggest to the author that he look at some scenarios with 5 in eye-candy and learn from them. A 1 I give here.
This was the strongest point in this campaign. The Author has taken some time to write the story and it is well done to let the player know who Belisarius was. Is there anything more to say? Well, the story/instructions is not worth a 5 yet, but they are worth a 4 for now. I give this a 4.
Overall: This is a fun way of spending around 15 min if you are bored. If the author updates this, I will happily review this again!
