Apfelheim is Supersasquatch's entry to the 2015 Pretty Town Contest.
Authenticity: While the author had a nice novel idea behind the entry, I felt that the implementation was off. There wasn’t much effort at an atmosphere beyond the map design, and the map could have generally benefited from better use of triggering. The use of objects and buildings from the Forgotten was nice and fresh to see, but was more creative than actually contributing to the atmosphere.
Creativity: There was certainly a creative use of object placement and ideas on display, but not much that really stood out here. Clicking on signs for directions was nice but I felt that a little more effort could have been made in this category.
Layout: The design in some parts was actually quite nice, but a proliferation of split cliffs and ill-advised building placement/combinations. The map could have benefited from more attention to gaia object placement and terrain mixing, as well as an immobile AI that kept the units in place.
Technical skill: While there wasn’t much to rate in this category, it seemed that the entry didn’t use an immobile AI or anything of the sort, so units kept wandering around the map, which killed the atmosphere and layout a little. Furthermore, the map was replete with split cliffs due to elevation, which is a cardinal sin with regard to map design.
