Requires Forgotten Empires mod or the Forgotten DLC
Conquest of the Empire is an asymmetric random map. Take command of a dying civilization, beset on all sides by barbarians. Though far past its prime, the remaining Imperial strength is more than a match for any single invader.
Player 1 (Player 2 in Conquest of the Imperium) controls the Imperial Capital, a city whose strength is proportional to map size. The capital includes a number of advantages: free housing and research buildings, barracks, accessible relics, some fortifications, multiple town centers (for some map sizes), a few elite troops, and stone reserves. In larger maps, Imperial possessions include smaller cities with a town center and a nearby relic.
To overcome this disparity, other players are expected to work together. The total number of players should not exceed the recommendation of the map size, or barbarians are likely to possess buildings in the capital. Barbarians start with a small army to harass cities and help fend off Imperial attacks. These armies have a random composition, which can be different for each barbarian tribe.
In Regicide games, Barbarians get double starting troops, but no castle. The Imperial forces will have a king in each town, an extra castle, and a few hero guards in the capital.
Many Imperial cities have already been overrun. Their rubble-filled remains are strewn across the map, offering various relicts of their former glory. All extra stone mines and relics will be found in ruined cities, as well as some old buildings, refugees, deserters willing to join whoever finds them, and bandits.
Fallen Empire is a version where the capital is no more, and all players start as barbarians fighting among the ruins.
