The Wolves of Winter is a fun 15min long minigame scenario. Player takes command over 5 hunting wolves on a mission to kill every mongol horse on the map, while the horses are protected. It's a fun scenario to play for some refreshment.
Balance is based on the player's ability to micro his wolves effectively and accomplish the objective as fast as possible. Neither of the mongol horseman offered much resistance; this removes a point here.
It's a very creative minigame for sure, having to control a wolf pack only, searching for food in the cold Mongolian steppe.
Map Design: 4+
Map design was really good, with nice mixing of different snow terrains. Elevation was used perfectly. Maybe just a little more polishing around the cliffs and it will achieve a clear 5.
With this being a minigame rather than a true scenario, story incorporated was simple, yet effective. Wolf pack searching for food also doesn't need very much of the instructions either. A small hint was also included, warning the player of Mongol horseman.
Additional Comments:One and only thing that bothered me was the victory condition shown in the objectives menu. A simple step is needed for it to be removed and making the objectives screen look much better.

The Wolves of Winter is a short minigame scenario created by MrMew in which the player takes control of a pack of wolves hunting for food in the snow covered steppe of Mongolia.
The Wolves of Winter is a short minigame in which you play as a small wolf pack in the snowy Mongolian steppe. The objective of the scenario is the hunt the horses of a Mongolian tribe for food to survive the harsh winter. The scenario is creative and fun for the few short minutes it lasts and is generally well designed. I didn't find anything wrong with the scenario but unfortunately it was just too short to really make any sort of impact. For me it was over in under 5 minutes, making it one of the shortest scenarios I've ever played.
Despite having difficulty setting and playing on Hard, this scenario was incredibly easy and took hardly any skill to win at all. You start off with a pack of 5 hunting wolves and you have to scout around the map to find the horses whilst avoiding the Mongolian Mangudai's. The wolves easily overpower the enemy units. The challenge in the scenario comes with having to chase the horses around the map and kill them before a certain timer runs out. There are difficulty settings which shorten the timer the harder the setting, but it's still far too long. I managed it in about 5 minutes, only half the time of the hardest timer. There are also some tedious parts such as chasing horses that are moving which are much faster than your wolves.
The scenario is short and simple but is based on a creative premise. There aren't that many scenarios which central characters are animals rather than humans so points are warded for this. The scenario may be a bit simple but is executed well. The author has shown a decent knowledge of the scenario editor and trigger tricks and has also provided a nice map design for the scenario.
Map Design: 3
The scenario is built upon a small minimap and is based on the Mongolian Steppes during the winter. Overall the map is designed nicely with much use of the different snow terrains, which are mixed together decently. It's not perfect but well executed and above your average scenario. Elevation is used very well, as is terrain mixing. and there is good use of eye candy.
There's not much of a story to the scenario. Most of it is given in the description of the file before you download it. There's no introductory screen to introduce the story and one line a dialogue at the start of the scenario before the action begins. The objective of the scenario is fairly straightforward but the instructions given are clear and helpful, although there are no additional hints, not that you need them.
Overall this is a fairly well made scenario with a very creative premise and lots of potential, albeit way too short to really bother downloading.
