The short description already describes this campaign well. If you want to know some important events in the Serbian history, then you will find this campaign interesting. In addition, the scenarios were made for the game in a matter that will hopefully spark some interest, since Slavic countries are under-represented in this game. Thankfully, the Forgotten add-on finally includes Slavs as a civilization, so they are no more characterized as Goths or Vikings, two totally different nations.
This campaign features seven scenarios. I used historic resources and documentaries. It was made as historically correct as possible. When there were not enough resources, especially about the early medieval period, I used my own imagination. Like in the first scenario I did not know how the White Slavs came to the Balkan, i.e. what was their path. The scenario maps were made thorough and precise, using geographical maps and reworking those on Gimp. The bmp maps in the file were found on the internet. I made some notations so that the player will better understand. However, the maps are not showed after a patch release, so are history messages. Maybe it will be fixed some time.
PS: It was fixed through numerous updates.
This game is in Russian and English. Maybe there will be a Serbian translation in future.
Feel free to comment to make this campaign better.

Hello! Your Campaign was interesting a lot. I enjoyed playing it, even if I had to assault my native city (thessaloniki) :p. Although, i think some things need more attention so it would be perfect. That's why i'm not posting a review, I would if you ever update it...
First, it needs some updates, in the english version on the information, for instance, I would like to know why I must go to Mt. Athos, or buikd churches, why i'm in jail etc. You also need to be more Specific (a non Balkan lad has no idea where Serres may be etc.)
Secondly, i would suggest some map corrections, especially in the missions depicting the whole Balkan region. (c'mon Halkidiki isn't so small.- Venice part wasn't so detailed, Serres isn't so close to Thessaloniki etc.)
Thirdly, some mechanics, I was waiting the Bosnians to attack/change alliance-nothing happened, when you escape from prison and find the prisoners nothing happens etc.
If you correct these issues, in my opinion, your work would be great. Cheers and thanks for trying to create a historical campaign! |

Thanks for your comment. Probably there are some bugs since it was not completely playtested.
With building churches you mean monasteries in the third-last campaign? After the patch update of HD some things won't work unfortunatelly, like the history message (appearing before the scenario begins). There you can see the information. Otherwise the victory message at the end also has some information. The same goes to the jail quest. The scenario before it has some information at the end, but I don't want to publish spoilers =). There is a note in one of the instructions that Serres is east of Strumica. And there should appear a flag in the map. I also thought how large Halkidiki should be, I decided to make it not so large as it is not the main area of notice, but maybe I will make it a bit larger.
Regarding the Bosnians, this is strange as it went when I tested it. But I made some changes after that so there may be a bug.
Actually they are not meant to be prisoners :), but militias. What do you mean that nothing happens? When you reach there, are they being converted to Player 1? If yes, you should go further to the west. Do not forget that visiting your buddies is not your main goal =). Also, you should "change your clothes", as moving as "halberdier" (like the prisoner guards) is not great and your people won't identify you.
Thanks again. Creating historic campaigns is challenging but interesting. |

Hello Cataphract, thanks for your review. There are some points I don't agree with you, so I would like to comment them. It seems you didn't read carefully the instruction or you were too impatient, as I tested the scenarios (trying to be a third person) and everything went ok as it should be.
In Scenario One you should move to the South, according to the objectives. You don't really need to defeat the Alans at all. This scenario is just a prelogue to the campaign. "Nothing happened after i brought every unit i had to the designated area and moved about in it, trying to get the trigger to detect me." It went for me; perhaps you did lose someone in your way, say a cart. Your hero must stand on the place where the flag is.
As for the second scenario, I did it intended as a "surpise" for the player, as he should not
wait until the time is over and concentrate only on fortification. Siege weapons were not available for the Bulgars, as far as I know. I added tarkans in an updated version for higher difficulty. But the other soldiers did quite a lot of damage to my small settlement. Did you try on hard difficulty?
Regarding the next scenario: It is explained in the messages (history, which is still not fixed; instructions, etc) that Caslav was allied with the Byzantines, so I thought it would be logic if he would hire some of its soldiers.
You are right, after the new patch update the team change was fixed. Now the scenario has forced team positions, but it was not like that before. Before that you could change the team, so you don't need to attack any palisades nor kill any guards. I will try to fix this and upload the new version here.
In this scenario you should actually build the monasteries, as required in the instructions. Don't hurt the wolves...
Actually I play tested it many times, and only a humble of times I was defeated. Try to get to Belgrade as fast as possible.
You don't know about this battle, do you? I don't know why you need any walls, it is a simple battle on a large field. What you need to do is building an army, as required in the instructions, and get them to the field.
I play tested the campaign several times, so your argument that only 3 scenarios are playable is not accurate. |

Ill have to replay some of the scenarios in order to reinforce my arguments then, but here are a few points from memory:
"In Scenario One you should move to the South, according to the objectives. You don't really need to defeat the Alans at all. This scenario is just a prelogue to the campaign. "Nothing happened after i brought every unit i had to the designated area and moved about in it, trying to get the trigger to detect me." It went for me; perhaps you did lose someone in your way, say a cart. Your hero must stand on the place where the flag is."
Thats exactly what i did, my hero and his force reached the flags with no causalities and i moved the hero and the trade cart throughout that area and could not get that trigger to fire.
"As for the second scenario, I did it intended as a "surpise" for the player, as he should not
wait until the time is over and concentrate only on fortification. Siege weapons were not available for the Bulgars, as far as I know. I added tarkans in an updated version for higher difficulty. But the other soldiers did quite a lot of damage to my small settlement. Did you try on hard difficulty?"
I only play on hard difficulty, and try lesser difficulties after.
"Regarding the next scenario: It is explained in the messages (history, which is still not fixed; instructions, etc) that Caslav was allied with the Byzantines, so I thought it would be logic if he would hire some of its soldiers."
OK, it was a very minor point anyway.
"You don't know about this battle, do you? I don't know why you need any walls, it is a simple battle on a large field. What you need to do is building an army, as required in the instructions, and get them to the field. "
Thats exactly my problem with the scenario. The enemy is completely passive and waits for you to make an army and attack them. This may be historical, i dont know, but it surely isnt balanced because the player will surely win. My point about the walls is that even if the AI could attack, you could wall\castle up and still win. Its an easy, unbalanced scenario.
"I play tested the campaign several times, so your argument that only 3 scenarios are playable is not accurate."
I disagree. Its not your fault that the prisoner mission is bugged, as it sounds like the HD developers changed the game mechanics since then, and on scenario5 the relics\monastary mission, yes i did make monastaries on the flag and it didnt do anything. You didnt address the scenario6 instant loss i experienced so i assume that point is uncontested.
The purpose of my review is to both give players an idea of what to download, and definitely help authors out making and improving their scenarios. If you do update the campaign i would be very happy to see it, and the review can be removed, demoted into a comment, etc. Im not convinced at all that the statement that only 3 scenarios functionally work is factually incorrect, but as i said ill have to replay it to refresh my memory and give an even more indepth explanation there.
I do apologize if i am being too harsh;i do find it difficult to balance the need to be informative with the necessity of not bashing an author, and i do feel poorly for having left the review as is.[Edited on 02/18/17 @ 11:23 AM]

"You don't know about this battle, do you?"
I feel the need to emphasize this point. Of course i dont know about this historical battle;hardly anyone who is going to play this campaign knows either. This is a great opportunity for you to teach people about serbian history while entertaining them, a far cry from schools providing force-fed education from dry history books. You need to tell the story and history of serbia for us, and put that content into the campaign. Thats partially why the 2\5 in story is there;the lack of historical content inside the campaign itself, even if you know about it in your own head. |

Alright, so i went back to the four scenarios i listed as broken;
Scen1: OK, i did receive a victory this time by standing on the flag. I was moving around in the area the first time with the archon, trade carts and plenty of troops so i may have been unlucky;this time i was sure to put the guy right on the flag. Are you really supposed to just win in this way however? There was no gameplay or combat, just walking.
Scen4:prison map, broken because of HD changes as discussed
Scen5:The monastery mission definitely is broken. I have the 5 monasteries on the five flags and i do have 5 relics. Im looking at it right now in alt-tab
Scen6:The instant loss i was receiving, and got again, was my fault for not seeing a bunch of halbs jumping on my cavalry hero.
I was wrong twice, and twice it was the campaign for sure.
IMO the trigger detection was way to tight on scen1, and thats why i didnt win it before despite having all my units "near", "around" and even "past" but not literally on the flag like you wanted.
By the time i had reached Scen6 i was entirely frustrated and hadnt examined it closely anymore. Therefore i must retract some of my statements in the review, however i do maintain 2 out 7 scenarios being broken, is enough to leave the rating until an update, at which point i would place a 3\5, if its then possible to play through correctly. |

Thank you very much Cataphract for commenting quickly. I will check the campaign once again. Agree that the area in which you should stay is too small. In addition to it I thought about that adding some puzzle elements into this campaign.
I will check the monastery scenario. I played it several times and it went, but it was a time ago. Maybe there is somewhere a bug after the patch update. Or maybe you did not put all relics to the monastery?
The prison scenario was updated yesterday and I will check it once again. Unfortunately I tried to add some features, like when you attack a guard he will change his position to you to enemy. However, that AI command does not work in HD. Maybe it has been fixed after the update, but very unlikely. Therefore that scenario seems to be a bit strange at the beginning.
This is my first campaign, so it may need some reworking in design and gameplay. Your design tips were very helpful. Agree that there should be more about the historical background and so on. I was thinking in making some voice acting and adding some sounds. Anyway, v.1.2 is in progress. |

Yes, although 3 relics are in one monastery and two others spread out;maybe they all need to be spread out? Either that or again the detection on the monastery building itself is defined with too much exactness. The flags dont correspond to the shape of the monastery, so its not possible to place it evenly within them. Here is my savegame if you really need to see it for yourself. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vc61lxvubjxqal5/monastary.aoe2spgame?dl=0
EDIT:"The prison scenario was updated yesterday and I will check it once again. " Im sorry, i didnt mean to imply i had played the updated scenario and its still broken;i havnt checked it out. Im thinking the review needs to be yanked as its becoming chopped up, messy and out of date.[Edited on 02/19/17 @ 07:56 AM]

GranCalabaza, i pulled the review as i felt it no longer accurately reflected the campaign 100% in the first place, even though there are outstanding issues that should be updated. When you do get a more updated campaign and you are satisfied with your progress id be happy to play it again and review it at some point, as i do find it interesting enough for another go. |
