Dark Age Slinger

Author File Description
Achesun
File Details
Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
Screenshot:
This is a slinger unit from my old Northern Europe civ project. It might be useful for some mod designer looking for a dark age style unit, so I uploaded it to the blacksmith.

If you're going to use it in your project, just make sure you have credit the author. Thanks.

This new unit by Achesun is a stone throwing slinger unit. Created for an unrealised Dark Age mod, this unit can be used as a generic slinger unit in a variety of mods and scenarios.

Usefulness/Novelty: 4
Beyond the slinger from the original AOE and the one in AOG, this is one of the only slingers that I have discovered for AOK, and the first custom/user made one. This slinger has a good design that can be used for generic units in all manner of different capacities, whether that’s a dark age mod pack or as a generic soldier in a medieval scenario. The unit comes with a custom icon and player colour adding to its usefulness as well. One thing which I believe would help some users make better use of this unit it, especially newer models, would be to include a stone projectile for the unit. Whilst there is one in the game data somewhere, it would be incredibly difficult for a new modded to locate this, thus making it harder for them to use this unit correctly.

Quality/Instructions: 4
The unit is made entirely from scratch using 3D middling in Blender. This is one of Achesun’s earlier blender units, and is defiantly a step up from some of his earlier units made in Paint. The unit has solid animations and the graphics run smoothly. However I also feel as though it also looks a little bit unrealistic and cartoonish. It’s head and arms seem to round and it doesn’t blend well with the rest of the game.

Additional Comments:
Overall a nice addition to the game with some good uses, but a little bit more work required to make it entirely worthwhile and perfect.

Thanks
Possidon
