Version: Age of Kings 1.0
This is my first attempt at a scenario for AoK, and while it may not be the best out there, I think it's ok. It may need some editing, so if anyone wants to play this scenario and comment, please feel free. In fact, any suggestions would be greatly welcomed. It's nothing historical, simply a battle between a powerful oppressor and a tribe that wishes to be free. Good luck!

sandy minderson I have played this scenario several times, and each time it is a new challenge! I love how each city is set up, especially your starting city. Quite a tough battle to try to win, and I'm not always successful. Good effort over all.
Larry Haughwout Unique and interesting main map. Lacks instructions, bitmap, and triggers but was really fun to play. Took me several trys to find a strategy which allowed me to achieve dominance and even then it was a long hard battle.

Oppression is another one of those submissions from the very earliest days of the blacksmith and i feel some balance should be struck between accounting for standards of the day and the objective qualities of scenarios regardless. Unfortunately it simply doesnt stack up well even against random maps or the ES campaigns.

Playability 1

Lag. I couldnt find a reason to explain why this scenario lagged, but it was pretty bad, odd for a 1v1.

As for the gameplay, its a typical black forest B&D with a slow buildup and the enemy base filled with towers. There are basically no gold or stone mines on the map, and that even includes the enemy base. There is an el dorado of gold and stone near the player however, sealed off with some trees and marked with a flag. Once the player chops his way in he will have deathmatch level resources while the AI has nothing.

Balance 1

While fighting against a post-imperial britons with only dark age troops to start is indeed difficult, im not sure that would be most peoples favorite cup of tea. The problem here is that outside of the enemies starting force, they themselves cannot easily recruit more troops. Its brutally hard to hold off the initial attack, but no further attempts are made by the AI beyond that, and after you find the el dorado you have infinite gold\stone. As seen before, giving the enemy a huge fortress doesnt make it challenging if the player himself can spam siege units to no end.

Creativity 2

The author did try to make something different from a random map. However this theme has also been seen before and this mission didnt even include the ''pay tribute or we bash your skull'' mechanic seen in several age1\age2 official scenarios.

Map Design 2

Its a Black Forest with starting cities added.

Story\Objectives 1

A 1 is appropriate as there is no story, dialogue, objectives, hints, etc. The idea of a strong tribe oppressing a weak one is expressed in the scenarios blacksmith description, but has no ingame implementation.

Final thoughts: Play a random map.
