Norse longboats have been sighted on the ocean waves!
Take control of an isolated fishing village somewhere off the coast of Ireland, with limited technology, few resources and no immediate soldiers to call upon. You will have to make do with what is available to you. Battle-hardened Norse warriors are also on the prowl for your holy Christian relics and you will need to keep them safe if you are to secure victory.
Can you withstand the Norse raids?

I have unfortunately been much busier than expected and haven't been able to give this scenario the work it deserves, however here is a quick update to tidy up a number of issues.
VERSION 1.2:
- Unit training costs at the armoury and practice range significantly reduced.
- Player can now train men-at-arms.
- Training men-at-arms now requires stone (iron), which forces the player to search for and use the stone mines.
- New hints now mention how researching certain blacksmith technology will enable men-at-arms and elite skirmishers.
- Difficulty dynamics implemented for converting enemy units.
- Fail safe implemented if Bornifast fails to attack.
- Some AI tweaks.
- Various map design tweaks. |

Mash, its really nice with the M@A, very tough but possible, played again in UP 1.4 Hard. The stone requirement is a good idea to encourage the player to leave the base, although it didnt seem hard to get stone since nothing happened to my stone miner over there. I played through this time straightup without using house walls and the like. OK i did make some houses on the tower and one to trap units in that palisade death trap but nothing more; my whole base is open and walkable ;-)
The new conversion limits on hard are good, i did manage to nab 3 longboats and after that could use the monks as weapons, its nice! Too bad they cant shoot lightning bolts out when they convert kill units like in AoE1(cheat unit). After that i noticed it seemed like the longboat navy attack in the lategame got beefed, so i didnt easily get naval supremacy. I think its perfectly balanced now on this regard.
It was possible for me to pay the tribute in time, but im just too stubborn and prideful to do such a thing. Ill take death before performing such a shamefull act XD But i think its good, i had about 800 gold and if i dumped my food on the stock market i could have hitten the mark. It looks balanced. Actually i just realized ive been playing the whole time without using the gold at all; i could have been buying food\wood all along...ah well.
Really good scenario now, tough endgame finale, its fun :-)[Edited on 02/27/17 @ 08:33 AM]

Thanks for the comment and for your observations Cataphract. I'll definitely check out what might be causing that issue with regards to training the militia. As for the gold, I'm a little the same myself! Bornifast can eat dirt if he thinks he's getting away with it that easily, and besides... it's fun testing him. I'm glad the gold objective seems balanced enough. The tribute does go up substantially with every difficulty level, but I figured the player could just as easily trade food and wood for gold through the market anyhow if they're running short. |

I liked this map, very funny, but I think the town center is too strong and all battles can be won only with it. I think you should weaken it a bit |

I've just given this scenario a new update. You can see the changes below.
VERSION 1.3:
- Fixed pathfinding issue whereby enemy boats were becoming ensnared in the shallow crossing to the island's south.
- Changed condition requiring the player to bring 3 relics to monastery at the end of the scenario. Rectified to now bring the relics to the village Town Center due to the inherent relic garrison bug.
- Town Center is 500 HP weaker on moderate and hard difficulty level.
- Various map design tweaks, including a new shallow crossing between the two main Norse-controlled islands.
- HP tweaks to enemy commanders across all three difficulty levels.
- Battering rams added to the Northmen force.
- New music added to soundtrack. |
