"Fortaleza Perdida (Lost fortress) AoFE" is a scenario for the free AoFE2.2 mod for the cd version. The scenario comes in Spanish, however there is no ingame story to speak of so this only precludes players from reading the intro text.
Playability 2
With 3,530 enemy units on the field at the start, the game is plagued by crippling lag. This subsides somewhat toward the end as the enemy units spill into the city and focus on attacking buildings, but it cripples the game throughout, making it hard to play or do anything besides watch. The reviewer has a decent quad core system with a gtx 1060 6GB.
Besides this, its an intense siege defense scenario that could have been more fun perhaps with better paced enemy attacks and minimal lag. You will defend a massive fortress city, constructing a wonder and maintaining it for the countdown to victory.
Suggestions;use triggers to create enemy armies. No more than 300-400 men per wave at the most sounds decent. Perhaps put a Huns player on the map and give them Atheism to add a bit more time to the scenario, as the game is over very quickly with little chance for the AI to breakthrough.
Balance 2
The enemy has a huge army and attacks relentlessly, resulting an intense game. Unfortunately a number of factors combine to make not well balanced, first of which is the game can be won on autopilot as the AI has little to no chance to actually reach the wonder;they are not very focused on this goal and will content themselves with pillaging your city. Secondly is that the enemy army is too strong;its virtually impossible to do anything against armies of this magnitude and strength, so all you can really do is buy time for the wonder to countdown.
Suggestions;start the enemies closer to the city and give them more siege rams and maybe a trebuchet or two. Consider making less enemies simultaneously so the player has a chance to fight them. And cut back on the players fortification strength, as it is very difficult for the AI to pose problems against this many castles, walls, and fire towers.
Creativity 2
There is a decent attempt to make an epic siege scenario, but it is fairly simple without gameplay mechanics added or much inspiration taken from the community innovations in these forms of scenarios over the years. I recommend the author play "Winter Storm", "Blood of the Bear" or "Defence at Lorgans Watch" to pick up some ideas and inspiration.
Map Design 2
The fortress is reasonable looking, though it is fairly simple with everything placed in rows. The terrain visible outside the walls is bordering on blank terrain with untouched grass and solid walls of jungle. Outside the players vision is a vast maze that the AI armies must navigate, and this surely adds to the lag a bit.
Suggestion;get rid of the maze and use triggers to create enemies closer to the gates. Try playing "Jaguar Gold" and "Nyctophobia" for ideas on how to make the jungle look a bit better.
Story\Objectives 3
There is a solid amount of objectives, hints, and scouts reports as expected for a decent game. There is not much if any ingame storyline or immersion adding effects such as music or audio assets. The reviewer didn't translate everything to read it, but it seems normal for the 3 score.
Final Thoughts:Far to laggy at the moment to recommend playing. It could become an entertaining siege scenario with updates, however.[Edited on 04/11/17 @ 11:15 PM]
