Beta palette for The Conquerors

Author File Description
File Details
Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
What is this?
This mod replaces the main palette of AoC by the AoK beta palette made compatible with AoC.

Shortly before AoK was released the contrast of all palette colors was changed to make the game
look more colorful. This mod restores the old colors for AoC. Since the AoC palette differs
from the AoK palette in some colors, a bit of manual work was needed. Luckily however
the original AoK palette is still in the game files as resource ID 50505 (and more).

Since the change is a bit subtle, it's hard to show with a screenshot.

How to install
Replace the resource with ID 50500 (in interfac.drs) with palette.pal
and replace data/view_icm.dat with the one provided.

gag2000 hello, thanks for this i always liked the darker style of the game.
Since we have to replace a dat file, is it still multiplayer compatible ?

Edit, here is a comparison where you can see the effect, afaik AoK still use the same palette, they changed it for AoC.

I don't see why it wouldn't be multiplayer compatible. AoK uses the same bright colors as AoC. Only a couple of colors were changed for AoC.
EDIT: another comparison, I especially like the west european castles:

I did too. Final AoK *does* have the high contrast palette.
iLikeHell Wow, thanks

I noticed that color 107 (which was changed in AoC) makes some things really look bad. The dirt terrain and dark age town center for instance. Unfortunately if I just use the original color there it makes the minimap look wrong. I'm not quite sure yet what's the best way to fix this.
Maybe to use beta minimap colors, but this requires a .dat change.
