The Battle of Mohacs

Author File Description
File Details
Version: Age of Kings 1.0
The Battle of Mohacs is actually a scenario for a much larger campaign called The War for Hungary. This scenario is about the epic clash between the Hungarians and the Turks at Mohacs a Hungarian city.<p> It is 1526, you have received a letter from a General telling you about forces heading for Mohacs. You begin with a small regiment, and must acquire forces by hiring and training men. The Turks attack at a special time, and the result is devastating. There are many triggers and special tricks in the scenario, so mess around and have fun.

The Battle of Mohacs is a hybrid between FF and B&D.

Playability 2
The game was very short and rapidly resulted in a win before i had a chance to try doing much. The enemy is entirely fixed force and wont pose a longterm threat. The triggers were poorly executed which hampered the authors resource\military system. However the gameplay did proceed smoothly and i won after a burst of combat, so it avoids the minimum score.

Balance 1

The troops given to the player at the start were sufficient to result in victory, even though the enemy had been given massive ammounts of siege units my cavalry happily hacked them to pieces en route and the remaining troops went into a pre-built death trap situation. The enemy AI resigned before any scenario victory conditions were achieved.

Creativity 3

The author put a system of gathering tribute from a friendly town, hiring villagers, and transforming them into troops or gold, as needed. For the time the scenario was released this is quite a good effort.

Map Design 1

The map entirely consists of flat grass, with a single river and two large bases. A diagonal bridge is present, but is glaringly ugly as the unconnected bridge segments show themselves. You could probably make this map in 60 seconds or less. Its unfortunate because even a random map modified would have been far superior.

Story\Objectives 2

The story was minimalistic in the form of a letter which had arrived briefly covering the situation. Infact if this had been elaborated on and came with a hints, scouts and history section and some more ingame dialogue it could have been the scenarios best attribute.

Final thoughts:A primitive scenario typical of the early days of the blacksmith and novice scenario designers who havnt played other works in the smithy yet. Another one of those 3000+ download scenarios that only now receives a review, unfortunately its no gem in the rough.
