The College of Winterhold is a 3D modelled building by AbeJin, based on the location of the same name from the video game Skyrim. The mode is not a complete mod pack as it is not compiled into a SLP and instead has only been uploaded as a image file.
While this model is certainly unique - I can’t think of any other mod packs based on the Elder Scrolls series - it does suffered from a couple of limitations. Firstly is the building itself. There isn’t much scope for anything from this series to be used in Age if Empires without a total fantasy conversion mod pack, there it limits the use of the building. It’s true that you can simply take the design and use it as anything, a grand headquarter for an order of mages or something, however, this brings me to its other downside. For me, the building is far too large in size. It’s probably double the size of the wonder which takes up a vast amount of space on a map, a much of the screen so when it in view you can’t see much else. You could descale Olathe building but that would create extra work for the user and require good software to do well without losing any quality in the graphics.
AbeJin is a master of his craft and has designed some absolutely beautiful building in the past and this one is no exception. The building is highly detailed and well made using 3D rendering techniques. It blends well into the game and has some great attention to detail in it. This is where the large scale works well because you can see all of this detail, but it still can also get in the way of the rest of the screen. This utility however does not come with an instructions on how to turn it into a mod pack nor does it provide any context into what the College of Winterhold is or what the graphic can be used for. Some detail here in the description would be quite nice. I for one don’t play Skyrim so had to search what it was.
Overall this is a well designed building that unfortunately suffered from a couple of limitations.
