Hrolf the Ganger depicts the Viking Hrolf, also known as Rolf or Rollo, raiding up the Loire River in the years 896-911. There is a nice half-finished map with Nantes and Orleans, but all of France south of the Loire has been left blank. Your raiders can pick up 500 gold for knocking off a trade cart or trade cog and there are rewards for razing buildings.
Rolf was actually the guy who started the Norman thing going. He was called the Ganger (Walker) because he was so big and gangly no horse could carry him. I would never make this stuff up, I couldn’t. After 911 he made a treaty with the King of France and settled down in Rouen. The manner of his surrender to King Charles the Simple is preserved in legend. Rolf was too proud to kiss the King’s foot as per custom so he ordered one of his warriors to do it. The warrior was too proud to bend over so he picked the King’s foot up, knocking the King down (some say, out the window!) The Norse Men became known as the Normans. Later they did the Conquest thing but they basically stop picking on France. Most of the time.
I knocked off a few targets, picked up a little gold, and then got the all clear that Nantes had surrendered, there would be no more resistance, and it was time to do some serious plundering. So I send my ravening hordes of BZ’s ashore to raise heck. Sure enough, about 5 razings later came an army of Franks from Orleans and I got massacred to the last man. Hey Lieutenant, I thought they said this town was pacified !
I like the look of this map, at least the completed part north of the Loire. Like the author said, this is an incomplete demo. It would make a good scenario it if gets completed.

You cannot win this skald. The author intended it as a Build & Destroy; you have 5 villagers, no resources and can only gain gold. Player 3, Nantes should tribute 900 wood, 500 food and probably stone in the red coloured effect (the three hidden triggers) when you destroy his market. Player 3 used his few starting resources and the enemies will defeat you eventually.

Thanks T99! I feel better about getting wiped out if you consider it not possible for me to win.
