The idea behind the scenario was to program it later, but that was too complicated for me. So it is now a panorama of the Battle of Crécy of 26 August 1346 between the troops of the French king Philip VI. and the English under King Edward III.

The for Philipp VI. lost battle marked the actual beginning of the Hundred Years War. Philipp lost the battle mainly because of the complete indiscipline of the noble knighthood.
Instead of waiting on the battlefield as arranged by Philipp until all the troops are gathered to attack with all one's might, the noble lords attacked with their entourage as they arrived on the battlefield.

King Edward III. had set up his troops in a new tactic: he leaves the knights dismount from the horse and to stand next to the bowmen.
This was psychologically a brilliant move. It showed the infantry that the knights could not to ride off if it went badly. Militarily it was brilliant too, because now the archers had a sense of security, and could constantly fire the attacking French knights as the few knights who came through were cut down by the English knights and their spit servants.

Despite the brilliant tactics of Edward III, the English would have been lost Philipp VI would have had his noble knighthood firmly in his hand, because the English could not have withstood the closed attack of the French.

The Battle of Crecy is a Showcase scenario by Lysandros which showcases the land of North Eastern France just before the climatic battle of 1346. The map was designed to be a playable scenario by the author but the author gave up on the playable aspect and released it as a map only scenario.

Rating: 1.5
The author has clearly put thought and effort into creating the map but unfortunately most of his efforts fall flat in design. The map is not much different from what you would find in a ES design scenario from twenty years ago. The map as clearly been built from scratch as it doesn't look like any of the inbuilt random map scripts, yet it is doesn't look any better either. In fact in some way I think it looks worse due to there being a lesser variety of terrains and an overhaul of GAIA objects. The only terrains used to a noticeable effect are Grass 1, Road 1 and Forest. None of these terrains are mixed effectively and makes the map look quite bland. GAIA Objects like Flowers, Paths and Forage Bushes have been used but not in a way that add to the realism or aesthetic of the map. They seem to almost be randomly placed in some areas whereas in other areas the are clumped together so much that is covers the majority of the screen. This is particularly noticeable with the flower patches. I can see the authors intention was to create a grassy plain for the battle to take place but it doesn't look good. The other negative sight is the countless outlines that can be seen due to the forage bushes, mines and deer.

I'll give the author some create for the effort put into adding flavour to the map with the towns and armies but even they need work to look more realistic as they are very square and crowded.

Additional Comments:
Overall the map has clearly had some effort put into it and I applaud the authors attempt, yet more work is needed to map this a suitable map for a playable scenario.

Well Done
