Alright, it's about time I upload something again.
Here we have two units in this pack, a Mongol horseman and a footman. These are originally made for an April Fool's joke in 2019, but has been requested to release them. Well, honestly I don't think they're of the best units from Achesun...the rider's not so good, but I guess the footman's looking ok...anyway I'm uploading them both, so if anyone want to make some mongol related mod or scenario they might find these useful.
As usual, this pack includes the slp files and an icon. 25 frames for decay sequence and 50 frames for the others.
Oh, by the way, if you have seen that joke you might want to know if there's one more banner carrier unit. Well, that one was made only for the screenshot with only standing graphics, so sorry if you really wanted that one...
Like always, if you want to publicly publish this unit in your projects, please don't forget proper credits.
These two Mongol units were created by Achesun as part of an April Fools joke a couple of years ago. Never intending to release them to the blacksmith, popular request has turned his hand and he has now release them here as SLPs for others to use. The April Fools joke in question relates to Achesun’s upcoming Sengoku Tota Conversion mod pack. As part of the joke Achesun claimed that the Mongol Civilisation would be added and posted a pictures of some Mongolian Units as part of the post.
The mongols are a popular civilisation in Age of Empires, so popular in fact that the new Definitive Edition comes with a new expansion focusing on them. Therefore these units could be a welcome edition to many modders and scenario designs who like to base their projects on Mongolian history. The two units in this pack are a Mongolian Pikeman and a Horse Lancer. Both of these units are nice editions to the editor and look fairly historically accurate with their clothes and armour. It’s nice to have some additional Mongolian units beyond lute standard Mangudai.
As the units were originally only designed for the purpose of being used in a screenshot for a joke, the design of them is slightly rough. They were clearly built quickly and as such lack the finish of Achesun’s previous works. The units lack some clear detailing that one would expect to find on a work from this author. Achesun is one of the communities leading designers of unit graphics and as such, he produces some of the best units you can find. While there’s is certainly nothing bad with these two units, there better than most you would find in the Blacksmith, they just don’t look as good as others Achesun has made. The pikeman looks quite nice but lacks some definitions and only has a very thin line of player colour. The horseman is a little better but in my opinion the horse is too small and looks a little cartoonish. Both units come with custom icons and a laid out nicely in clearly labelled SLP files.
Overall these are two nice units with some uses for others, but as rush jobs they lack the detail and definition needed to shine.
