Age of Kings 1.0 |
This is a pretty straight forward scenerio depicting the buildup of William's, Duke of Normandy, Army for the cross channel invasion of England. It turned out to be a very fun scenerio and shows how effective the Norman cavalry was in
deciding the battle. King Harold's Army is composed of Huskarls and Berserks to simulate what the Saxon Army would have been composed of. Both have the round shield that the Saxons used. The kite shield was mainly used by Norman soldiers, so men at arms where not used for Harold's Army. Also, Huskarls where used because the Norman archers where very inaffective in the battle. Please, try it out and give me a review on my work. Sorry there are no sound files to go along, I am still trying to figure that out. |

This is a good scenario with a lot of potential, but that has some bugs. "Hastings: 1066" is an enjoyable and fresh re-creation of, surprise; the Battle of Hastings. You play the role of William the Conqueror, as he must gather allies, and prepare for an invasion of England, before he must carry out his invasion.
Your first task is to build a fleet of 20 transports to transport your army across the English Channel. Once you accomplish this task, your army will arrive. You will also need to gain the support of your allies by tributing your allies. Once your force is large enough, the assault begins, and get ready for a great battle... or that's what the author wanted to happen. Unfortunately, a number of bugs prevent this scenario from living up to it's full potential:
1. You are set to neutral with your allies, and will occasionally be attack by them. This doesn't really make much sense to me.
2. When you receive reinforcements from your allies, they will sometimes attack you before changing to your side. This bug is directly related to #1
3. During the final battle, your objective is to reach a nearby hilltop where the English command post is. However, it is child's play to slip a knight through the battle and reach the flag, taking only a couple of casualties.
In spite of these bugs, "Hastings" is none the less a very good scenario. The triggers are very well done, and the gameplay is fast and fun, and will keep you playing. I know that once I finished the scenario, I went back and played it again! The Map Design is not bad, but it could use a bit more natural look, and some eye candy.
The bottom line is that "Hastings" is a great scenario that is help back from the "Best of the Blacksmith" only by a few bugs. |

page refreshed , this is the comment:-) sorry
Playability:3
Over all it was decent enough to let you gather what you needed and get over the straight to battle
Balance:5
seemed fair, no one had the upper hand
Creativity:3
A little bit more candy would have been nice with a bit more triggers to ease boredom
Map Design:3
a basic design but easy on the eyes :-)
Story / Instructions:3
there wasn't much in the way of this but since the story line is simple anyway, unofficially I give it a 4 ;-)
over all it was good to play and change around - keep it up! |
