The Conquerors 1.0c |
The landing in Normandy: It's more like a cut-scene than a full scenario. It's not hard to play but if you've seen the film "Saving private Ryan" i think it's worth download. Just unzip it in your Age of Empires II folder and every file will go in the right position. All you need to know it's explained in the scenario instructions.
Story:
It's 987 d.C. 40 years have passed from the day when you landed in Normandy's shores. You've come back on the battle field for the last time, to see the graves of your old friends, that died fighting all around you. But know that you're standing in front of the cross with R.I.P wrote on it, you can still hear the sound of waves and the smell of fear. Here on this land that has been wet by the blood of thousand soldiers, the days of war don't seems so far as they are... |

Fun scenario. The problem is, I sent all the men to the tent, and they all got killed. How is that? |

WHO THINKS CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM HIMSELF DON'T READ THE FOLLOWING
After the forth big landing, you should attack from the side the beach, landing on the little lateral beaches (they're marked by flags too). |

This isn't my usual cup of tea, but hey this was fun. (play mostly RPG/RPS).
In brief, its a really nice scenario even if you don't play it all the way through but just watch the carnage.
This is definitely worth a download, well done!!! |

Playability: This scenario was fun to play and had good sound effects.
Balance: This scenario was somewhat easy but not enough to seriously effect the balance.
Creativity: The idea of the scenario starting with the viking visiting the graveyard and then the battle reocurring in his memory was very creative.
Map Design: The map didn't have an extremely wide variety of terrain but worked very well with the scenario.
Story/Instructions: The story was very good and the instructions were clear and easy to follow.
I think this is a very good scenario and recommend you download it. |

-The Landing in Normandy
-By Hunter_Killer
Playability: This scenario was fun to play and had good sound effects/music. I liked the change from desperately trying to command a massive assault to sneaking in from the sides. Nothing incredibly outstanding, but pretty fun to play. A 4.
Balance: The scenario's balance was the weakest point. I managed to win the scenario without dying at all and with a pretty large amount of my army left, but I was playing on a pretty easy difficulty setting. This gets a 3.
Creativity: The idea of the scenario starting with the viking visiting the graveyard and then the battle re-occurring in his memory was very creative. I have also never seen someone try anything like the doomed assualt on the main beach. Well worth a 5.
Map Design: There wasn't a whole lot of terrain mixing, but the map served its purpose. This gets a 4.
Story/Instructions: The instructions were very clear, I never had trouble figuring out what I had to do. The story was slightly confusing, but seemed pretty good. Another 4.
Although this is a pretty old scenario, I think it is well worth downloading. NOTE-This is NOT a World War II scenario!
Good Points:
Very creative
Good music and sounds
Clear instructions
Bad Points:
Slightly confusing story
Mediocre balance
Not much terrain mixing |
