After playing this scn. (BTW it's not really called Zip, it's called Aethelfirth and Iona), I must say it was quite enjoyable and well thought out.
For playability, I'd say a 3, because there were no obvious bugs, the game was sufficiently different from a random map game that you wanted to play it.
For balance, a 4, because you did not start off with a town, and although your army was large to start with, an encounter with Aethelfirth's army puts a stop to that early on. Also, you had only one monastery, and you did need to collect all the relics, so if your monastery was destroyed, game over.
Creativity: hmmm, tricky one this. The premise of collect the relics to get 10000 gold to pay off the enemy is an old one, basically ES's Walls of Constantinople in reverse, but this was together with nice ideas like not having a stable, and having to bring horses to your monastery to get knights. For that, a 3.
Map Design was above average, with icy rivers intertwining with snowy hills, cliffs and forests. Although there was a lack of eyecandy such as flowers, this is excusable, it being a snow map an' all. So, 4.
Story/Instructions: This scn had instructions, and it was always clear what to do, and it also had some kind of story tagged on, paying off the Saxons by raiding Monasteries, so a deserved 3 is given here.
All in all, a good scn, and a tiny download. Just goes to show, you don't need tons of triggers for a good 'un. |
