This is a ficticious campaign, based on real civilizations and religions, but in a ficticious world. It's the story of an empire raised from a decadent one, struggling in varied parts of the world (mostly desert). There's a good deal of triggers and heroes. The first scenario has a few rpg elements but it's really easy. This isn't my first campaign, but it's the first i submitt, i guess the others were not as good as this one, but this isn't as good as many things i've seen here. Well hope you enjoy it! |

I think this is the best campaign I've ever played and it's totally worth the download. |

I'm a huge Aoe, RoR and AoK fan. I've played many scenerios and campaigns since Aoe came out. I've played over a thousand campaigns in the series and this one was the best. From a expirenced player, this is worth the download. |

Rise and glory of the Khal'al v1.1 is another old campaign that got a review for having 3000+ downloads. This reviewer gave up playing at 6 out 11 scenarios;see Playability section for reasons.
Playability 2
After a snoozer of an opening scenario in which you walk about aimlessly for ages on a RPG, we jump into a series of ES-esque mix of Build and Destroy combined with Fixed Force missions. There are bugs that give control of all your heroes to the wrong faction at times if you dont beware. The B&D missions have deathmatch level starting resources. This ramps up as the campaign proceededs, with bigger armies and more starting resources with every map, while the AI isnt beefing up nearly as rapidly. I quit playing at the sixth scenario;it was the third B&D with 30,000 all resources, which just isnt interesting to play.
Balance 2
Cant say there is an appropriate level of resistance. After a gimme RPG mission, in scenario 2 the player is provided with a very powerful, well upgraded and flexible troop composition that clearly calls for powerful enemies;the barbarians are not quite up to this challenge and you can kindof cakewalk things. The player has a squad that eats paladins for lunch, a squad thats immune to archers, and a long ranged squad with 8 range and 22 attack, and a squad of 5 excellent heroes;i used only the heroes as self challenge and still won. Most missions fall into the normal B&D levels of toughness, albeit with massive starting resources.
Creativity 2
Its a good attempt at mixing things up at every game but its not really doing much to spice up the gameplay itself.
Map Design 2
The forests are blocky, the cities nondescript, and the best parts with gaia objects kind of underwhelming. It becomes painful in the opening scenario as the player has hero trebs and can see alot of bad terrain. Later on in the campaign there are vast amounts of blank terrain.
Story\Objectives 2
The first scenario doesnt give an overall objective and you are left to wander about aimlessly. The objectives, hints, etc are fairly decent. The scenarios often leave you to your own devices, ussually with no overarching goal, leaving you to explore to progress events. Goals are ussually "destroy the X empire" anyway.
Final thoughts: Not especially worth considering for a download. |
