The Sack of Rome

Author File Description
Marcus the Great
File Details
Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
Style: Build and Destroy
This scenario is based on the sack of Rome by Alaric the Goth in AD 410. It is played like a deathmatch, and there is no mineable gold or stone. you have to trade for it.

This scenario is the kind of scenario made up in a few minutes. It's a deathmatch-like scenario with little to do with the sack of rome in 410. The history section limits itself to "Alaric the Goth sacked Rome in A.D. 410.", and the instrunctions simply tell you to defeat all of your enemies. Althought the instrunctions did fulfill its simple task of telling all objectives, i'm still giving this scenario a 1 for story/instrunctions, since the scenario gameplay has almost nothing to do with the sack of rome.

Since this scenario has absolutely nothing new, and it actually is not creative at all, it's getting a 1 here as well.

The map is very, very bland and unnatural-looking. It does not seem to really resemble rome of the 5th century. However, the city of rome looks a bit interesting on the map, and a small bit of effort can be seen in the city (there are no signs of significant effort anywhere else on the map), so i'm going to reward this with a 2.

Now, this scenario is a bit of a no-brainer, but it does present a sort of a challenge, so i'm going to give a 3 in balance. I would easily give a four if there were a extra sign of true effort here, like a custom AI or something like that (the scenario uses the standard AI and apparently no triggers). And as much as this scenario had little effort, it still was a bit of fun, specially if you like deathmatches, so this scenario gets a 3 here too.

The aftermath here is that this scenario is quite a easily-forgettable piece, but still it may be fun for DM enthusiasts. In the end, playing this scenario is not the worst idea around here.
MirvShag Very nice single player mission. I played it on hard and it took me a little over an hour to beat it. The city of Rome is very well done. However, take a look at your scouting report because I think it is mixed up. And the 3rd computer player (yellow) quit after 10 min. Never the less a challenging map.....7/10
