This is my contest submission. Let me know where you think I stand. I know about the terrible bug at the end, where Skanderbeg runs away and the game ends. I can not figure out what is happening. There is a ton of historical info in the scenario, read it there.
"For 25 years, from 1443 to 1468, Skanderbeg's 10,000 man army marched through Ottoman territory winning against consistently larger and better supplied Ottoman forces. Earlier in life, a member of the noble Kastrioti family, he was sent as a political hostage to the Ottoman court, where he was educated and entered the service of the Ottoman sultan for the next twenty years. He rose through the ranks, culminating in the appointment as sanjakbey (governor) of the Sanjak of Dibra in 1440. In 1443, he deserted the Ottomans during the Battle of Nis." -Wikipedia
Its difficult to play because of the lack of completion. It seems the game cant be won due to trigger errors, and i couldnt get very far in the game. Its not playable.
The balance right off the bat seems all wrong. The city spams messengers non stop you have to prevent. The fever concept was broken and simply killed all your army instantly. Only your hero could make it through and he faces a death squad without any support.
The author certainly is on the right track with some good ideas but its so unfinished the execution is not working.
Map Design 1
Skanderbeg simply is an unfinished map. Vast chunks of blank land are in the playable area. The initial area struggles to compete against a random map quality, but when i started looking around the world i was shocked to find land that was headed in the direction of a 4 rating. The author certainly has good map design talent and simply didnt have time to finish before he submitted it to the contest.
You may have noticed my review started off like a scenario description, rather than a review header. That is because despite the files description claim that there is alot of history in the scenario, there really wasnt much there, just enough to get me curious about who Skanderbeg was and hit the wiki. Unfortunately very little if any of what i quoted from the wiki is in the scenario. Its an interesting story that the author could have shared with the player, and the scenario would have benefited from some kind of cinematic intro setting up events.
That said, the hints and scouts reports are quite comprehensive, and the objectives clear on what to do. These sections are amazingly comprehensive for how incomplete the game is.
