A good and interesting scenario, reminded me a bit of the Genghis Khan early scenario, but a bit more challenging.

Come on, guy. The Turks had 6 bombard towers and their knights excessive hit-points, with no proper seige weapons to knock them out. You're 'avin' a laff. Good try.

The Iron Limper is an average FF scenario on an unappealing map.
It plays out as a standard FF mission would, although mostly you sit around waiting for your trees[EDIT:trees?! LOL! horses of course] to gallop across a too large map. The player never really is given any proactive options, its just waiting for an event to happen and going straight away to do it with no complications in between. Its barely FF anyway as you have endless resources and are just limited by a 25 pop cap and get villagers towards the end. Multiple missions can be cheesed by tricking open the AI gates and just putting tamerlane inside some flags, gaining all their troops.
Each enemy you face is basically designed to be defeated with your force so i didnt even find it necessary to do anything but walk straight to objectives, let my troops do as they pleased, then walk to the next one. You have massive resources, just given to you by your tributary ally and random events. You can convert up a bunch of elephants with your hero monks when they attack, you have walls to hide behind while wololoing. You can actually just sneak your tamerlane into their gates and get many elephants and paladins for free this way as well. Its cakewalk land. The final fortress had some bombard towers but your rams are immune to their fire. I didnt use rams but just stormed the gate with my elephant herd and whomped all comers.
There was little to differentiate this from a ordinary fixed force mission in which you stumble upon random gaia units. The entire scenario was quite reminiscent of the first mission in the ES Ghengis Khan campaign but with even less stuff in it and no choices.
Map Design 1
The map opens up on a wonder with a garden, giving you the impression the map is heading for a 3\5 territory. Unfortunately the entire map is incredibly blank and inferior to a random map arabia in its desert mode. I understand that steppes is one of the very hardest AoE2 landscapes to create but you just cant have an entire map consisting of 85% or higher purely dirt3. This kind of map would have been acceptable if you mixed all 3 types of dirt and maybe the grass3 together simply with an aim to break it up the repeating texture patterns that form when only 1 terrain is used.
Its a goodly amount of writing in both objectives, hints, and scouts reports. There is a ingame story although its mostly just one-liners saying country A is warring us and now country B is warring us and so on. The winning message was a very large and detailed survey of tamerlanes career.
