Build and Destroy |
The Conquest of Paradis is basically a build & destroy scenario which features 5 combatants in southamerica during the heyday of Aztec rule.
The story goes like this: Spanish ships have brought intruders to Aztec lands, this is of cause not tolerated by the Aztecs who claims surpreme reign of the lands in their possession. The spaniards are joined by naboring tribes anxious to settle old scores with the Aztecs, a swampy riverdelta is hardly the best place for a huge battle but neither the Aztecs or the spaniards have any choice.
The aztecs only have one ally, this does not bode well for the Aztec future - but now you have the opportunity to lead those brave Aztec warriors against the Spaniards' cannon, the terrain favours the Aztecs and their style of fighting very well. The map is basically a river delta with 5 cities on diffrent banks of the river estuary and small islands in the river.
This scenario is in campaign format.
I think it's only fair to warn people that you will need a fairly large capacity (600mhz and 128 mb ram recommended) to run this scenario properly.
This scenario supports standard, moderate and hard settings.
Custom soundtrack, and voiceovers.
Be sure to memorize the map when given instructions at the beginning.

This scenario doesnt work for me, it looks great, but it just crashes when i play it. The author insists that it works for others so I have changed my rating of 1 to a neutral 3, seeing how i have no idea what the scenario is like. If I could figure out whats wrong, or if the author could provide me wiht a working version, i will rerate this scenario. |

To reviewer: Just because it crashed for you doesn't mean that it is a bad scenario, as far as I know you are the only person it has done that for. I think it is unfair to post such a lousy review for something you haven't even played, just because it didn't work for you.
The scenario runs perfect on my and my friends's pc's, other people in the scenariodesign forum also played it and found no flaws, so the problem could well lie on your own machine.
But the bottomline is that I think it is unfair to post a lousy review just because you coulden't play it. |

To the author:
I have tried playing your campaign on a WinME Celeron 800, and a Win98 AMD K6 II 400. It crashed on both. I believe there is a problem with the file that is being downloaded from AoK, or a problem in the zipping process. I strongly recommend you try downloading your scenario from the blacksmith and playing the version that is zipped. If anyone has been able to get this scenario to work, please place a message here. |

Warning!
Seven years later and it crashes on my new computer. I tried all difficulty levels and it even crashes on hard.
I mention hard because this is one of those want to pretend to be difficulty level dynamic scenarios but in reality, it has crappy triggers. On standard, the three difficulty-level triggers fire, on moderate two, only for hard it works like intended. Trigger easy level should include effects to deactivate the moderate and hard level while trigger moderate level should deactivate the hard level. Moderate and hard level need a condition timer not to fire before effects can deactivate them.
In addition to the three above triggers firing at the game's start, the following triggers do and cause the crash together, 'monestary hitpoints', 'castle hoardings' and 'first soundtrack'. There are also five looping diplomacy triggers from the start. We know since the Underworld II (fortunately crasher fixed it) that too many triggers firing at the game's start can cause a crash.
To fix, extract the scenario with the campaign to scenario manager and add condition timer to some of the above triggers. I changed the testing difficulty to Hard and added Condition Timer 3, 5, 8 to 'monestary hitpoints', 'castle hoardings' and 'first soundtrack', played fine. For lower difficulty levels, turn starting state of the others to 'Off'.
DoAOK_OpenSource, you will probably not read this: you were right. :) |
