The Battle of Agincourt (French Version)
By ENOTH Design Team (October 2001)
On the occasion of the 586th anniversary of the battle of Agincourt, October 25, 1415
A single (FF)
'French Version' does not mean that it has instructions in French or that they speak French there all the time. Don't worry, its in English. It's just you have to fight for the French in this campaign.
October 25, 1415, Saint Crispin's day. On his way to Calais, near the village of Agincourt, Henry of England is confronted by a superior French force commanded by Constable d'Albret, Marshal Jean Bouciquaut, Duke d'Alencon and other French nobles.
This time you are Duke d'Alencon and you fight on the French side (every time, in all scenarios, when the French meet the English at Agincourt, they loose! It's time to stop it, they just cannot sit and wait for Joan of Arc! All they need, is some discipline and a reasonable commander. Give them their chance to win!). Knowing your abilities, Constable d'Albret was going to make you the second in command. Some of his colleagues, however, like Marshal Bouciquaut, Jaques of Chatillon, the admiral, and half a dozen of Dukes, have their own strategic views and want no Commander-in-Chief to tell them what to do and how to win battles. If Duke d'Alencon has any chance to command the army of France, it's only after all these great Lords get killed or wounded. Meanwhile they are going to act on their own. All d'Alencon can do, is to give them some advice. They may listen to him, or they may not.

"Agincourt 1415 (French Version)" is a scenario based around the events of October 25th, Saint Crispin's day. This is a variation of the original scenario and now instead of playing the English forces you are given the oppurtunity to command the French and try to change the face of history.
Playability: The playability of this scenario was pretty good. The campaign lacked more objectives which contained things other than fighting, the English army is very well prepared for attacks and so makes defeating their forces hard and frustrating in place. Put this to one side however, and you have an enjoyable scenario, worthy of the time taken to play through it.
Balance: The balance of Agincourt 1415 was pretty tough. The positioning of the enemy forces upon series of hills and trees often make it challenging to attempt to flank the enemy, and so skirmishing tactics of luring out your enemy killing a few at a time is frequently required. This is a scenario recommended for those who savour a challenge, and don't mind investing a lot of time to achieve their goals.
Creativity: Creatively speaking, the author's work is above average. The inn keepers, use of strong Ai and yet not ever having total control over the units is an interesting medium. The scenario has in places lots of interesting ideas and the way you try to influence the various people is also a good idea.
Map Design: The map design was again another strong feature, but not quite there for the highest mark. Sure the map is beautiful and changing but in places I feel it lacks the special "WOW" factor which you see in most top mark map designs. Note, this isn't to offend the designers skills, but I'm sure he can get up one notch to make the highest score with not too much effort.
Story/Instructions: The story is a historical fiction scenario, a what if the English didn't win at Agincourt. The introduction screen was a little weaker than previously at the English Agincourt scenario was, but it's still pretty strong. Featuring a good bitmap, detailed instructions which were including the history as well. However, the lack of hints seemed a shame, especially when your posed with such a difficult objective and set of obstacles, which need to be completed before you may complete the game.
Overall: A strong scenario, but seems a little rushed in comparison to the English version of Agincourt 1415. Still, time is still well invested here if your up for a challenge and want to try to influence history. |
