Role Playing Strategy |
This is a single player scenario which should be challenging to both beginners and veterans (beginners should play an "Easy" or "Standard" level game, and vets... whatever you think you can handle). The object of the game is to capture a relic, but first you have to find it. You are exiled on an island, surrounded by your enemy, with only one way out... and it's heavily guarded. You have more than enough resources to build your forces enough to escape your island prison, then you begin your quest.
When openning the archive, you should specify C:\ as the unzip directory (assuming that you installed the game in the default directories). You will get an overwrite prompt if there are any files with the same name in any of the directories. |

"Against Overwhelming Odds" is a scenario whose name completely describes the game. While it is still possible to win, your enemy is very strong.
Playability: This scenario was definitely enjoyable, although it was quite hard at times, and a tad boring at other times. When you first start the scenario, you are lulled into a false sense of security as the first few minutes roll by. You quickly realize your mistake later on. The first half of the game is slightly difficult, and then it gets easier. Long walks down trails and long voyages by boat are what makes the scenario a little boring. However, these two factors were not what brought the score down. At the very end of the game, there is a bug or something that gets in the way of victory. While you can eventually win, this bug was quite annoying.
Balance: Hard enough to give you a challenge, yet easy enough to not be frustrating, the author did a nice job of balancing this scenario. Different than most scenarios, this one goes from hard to easy. Still, it wasn't to hard and wasn't too easy.
Creativity: This scenario was a basic retrieve-the-item-and-win game, and there wasn't a lot to spice it up. Any trigger tricks would be nice...
Map Design: The map was nice but could have been better. A little eye candy would have been good, and a little more diversity in the terrain would have been great. Still, it wasn't a random map, so it was okay.
Story/Instructions: It had an okay story, not gripping, but not completely boring. The instructions were vague and you ended up blindly exploring the map. If the author would give the instructions in a more concise manner, and would elaborate on the story, the score would go up.
Overall: This scenario was fun to play, but it had an annoying bug at the end that, after a long time of wandering and battling, made you want to cry.
Good points:
+ challenging
Bad points:
- vague instructions
- annoying bug at the end |
