“The Legend of Goku-Den-Kai (english)” is set in Japan and you take control of a samurai by the name of Goku-Den-Kai in search of Kobi-Ten-Tao. Leaving your master you set off on a quest to find this man.
Playability: The playability of this campaign was reasonable, you wander around and undertake different tasks on a wide map with a great feel of going where ever you want to go, even though you have to go to certain areas. Through out the campaign you have many tasks to take part in and many of them are interesting and keep the player playing.
Balance: The balance of this campaign is fair. It features a progressive learning curve of fighting lesser units as you begin but later fighting very hard units. The balance throughout the campaign was good, it wasn’t perfect but it is definitely above average.
Creativity: The creativity of this campaign was good, you had to fight wolves, help a lost soldier find his camp. Sure some of the things which were done have been done before, but they are tried and tested and make this another part of a solid scenario. You also gained stronger as you completed various tasks, and breathing fresh air was an interesting idea.
Map Design: The map design in this campaign is on the whole good, the map is beautiful. Some areas have a lot of the same terrain in places. However, this campaign is very good over-wise and the use of the rivers is a very attractive part of the map. The author has used many of the gaia features and has created a landscape, which is definitely another good part of this campaign.
Story/Instructions: The story in this campaign is well implemented and although you are very free throughout the game the story is still there. The bitmap was reasonable, it was taken from inside the age of king’s history screen and slightly modified but this shouldn’t be penalised. The instructions in the game are displayed well, I didn’t see any times where the instructions went passed before I had time to read them and I didn’t notice many mistakes even though the author is German and had trouble translating. The instructions were ok although occasionally the colour’s of the text was hard to see.
Overall: This campaign is definitely a good campaign. One of the better recent scenario’s to the blacksmith, apart from having to zip it into a .cpx campaign file this is a worthy download. Think of this scenario as a good scenario needing fine-tuning before it makes the Best of Aok section.
