“The Indian Revolt of 1857” is a scenario based around the Indian’s rebellion against the British started by Mangal Pandey. This file is actually a conquerors .scx file so you’ll have to use the campaign editor to turn it into a campaign file before you can play. This is the updated version of a previous map by the author with the inclusion of a introduction screen bitmap, I'm all for improving upon old works.

Playability: The playability of this campaign was below average, it basically involved travelling with some troops, going to enemies towns and getting more men then building up forces to destroy the British castle. I think this lacked variety and so I soon grew tired of this campaign.

Balance: The balance of this campaign was odd, when you begin the British have a very strong camp but because there is no made ai it soon becomes a question of just building up troops to destroy the castle. To make the balance better the author could make a custom ai for the British or he could give them more units around the map to make this more of a challenge.

Creativity: The Indian Revolt of 1857’s creativity was weak. It had few things of interest, destroying a castle, gaining towns and finding some extra men was as creative as this campaign got. To improve the creativity of this campaign you could add more interesting things, perhaps adding traitors in the ranks? Having to rescue some captured Indians.

Map Design: The map design was a solid feature. It was nothing spectacular and was based around a standard random map with additions and changes. The map design was competent and random map scripts score 3 as it is here. To improve the map design the author could perhaps include more eye candy, take a look at for reference to map design features and creating ai files.

Story/Instructions: The story was reasonable, it did not play as much a part in the game as in the opening screen. The history was mediocre and the instructions were very few. The hints were ok and now have a fair opening screen bitmap which was the main improvement over the other version, as this helps draw the player into your campaign. To improve the story you could add more in game instructions and perhaps portray the hatred between the British and Indians in the game to further enhance as to why you are playing.

Overall: A scenario with potential, the author should in future include a description for his campaign as many players won’t download something without a description even if brief. This campaign could greatly benefit from more variety to make it more interesting.
