This is little more than a cutscene that I hope will fill the gap between the Namek Saga and the Frieza Saga. I made it a seperate scenario because in my opinion, the battle against Captain Ginyu and the Ginyu Force was too large to fit into the Namek Saga. The Frieza Saga should be coming soon...
"Dragonball Z-The Ginyu Saga" is a scenario based cutscene on The Ginyu Saga, which is a story from a hit television series, Dragon Ball Z.
Playability: For a cutscene the playability was fair, the game was reasonably easy to understand. However, in places it seemed a little confusing, this was due to the quick effects. I also commented on this in the Story/Instructions section later in the review. Another problem was that at the end of the game when everything had happened you didn't win unless you used cheats as there is no "declare victory" effect to end the game. I'm sure if both these problems were fixed the playability would rise to the next notch up on the ratings scale.
Balance: Since this was a cutscene, i'll take an average from the 4 other different sections. Before I do this, let me just say the fights in game were pretty evenly matched. The average's are 3,4,2 and 3 so an average would be 2.75, I will round this up to 3 since it makes more sense that rounding down.
Creativity: A section where the Ginyu Saga excelled was the creativity. The spaceships, landing pod's,body switch and creativity trying to make the game interesting whilst based on a television show. All of these factors helped contribute to making this section easily the best part of the author's work.
Map Design: The map design of this scenario was a little weak. This was due to the unvaried terrain, the huge hills and palm desert trees didn't seem from "another world" so to speak. The landing sites and pods stayed true to this off world experience, but the main landscape didn't, a shame then. The author could improve the map design by adding a few more gaia elements and adding a greater variety of trees, which would fit the scenarios theme more.
Story/Instructions: The introduction screen was very promising, with a reasonable bitmap and mediocre hints, instructions and history sections. Upon loading the game the instructions passed by a little too quickly, also extended the length of time the dialogue is displayed for would be a important change if an update to this release was to be made. In places the game was a little confusing and the instructions didn't really help here. Story wise the game was a little hard to follow, but followers of the Dragon Ball Z series would pick it up almost straight away.
Overall: A reasonable cutscene for The Ginyu Saga, I can only hope that with the next set of Dragon Ball Z scenarios/campaigns designed by the author he continues to improve his work.
