“Horse Riders Demo” is a scenario renamed inside the zip file, “Help of Tamerlane” based around a fictional story of Tamerlane fighting against a former master who had treated him “like garbage”.
Playability: - The playability is weak. There is a big imbalance between numerical forces, in the player’s favour. With few tasks other than to hunt down the Horse Hunters and their master, there is very little to do whilst travelling the long distance. The author could improve the playability by evening out the forces on both sides, making for a more challenging game and by giving more tasks whilst travelling north to face your previous master.
Balance: - As stated in the playability section, there are too many units in your favour making all battles too one sided. To improve the balance category the author could add more enemy units on route to the former master’s base.
Creativity: - There were a few creative sparks in this scenario, such as multiple routes to destinations. However, due to the lack of things to do on various routes choosing one way over another had no benefit or repercussions at all. Furthering the creativity’s score could be achieved by adding more options, perhaps optional objectives, or more objectives and more features/things to attract the player’s attention while playing.
Map Design: - The map design, only took up about a third of the map overall. I recommend to the author that they choose a smaller map thus taking up more space. Of the seen map there are hills, trees and differentiation’s between broken road and road. However, there are very few if any gaia features added to this map. Terrain mixing between trees would be recommended if this scenario was to be updated.
Story/Instructions: - The story was below average. The Story/Instructions, Hints sections were weak and there was no History section or bitmap. In game I didn’t see any form of triggers or communication other than fighting enemy units. The lack of a story was a disappointment, and is something the author could further build upon in his/her next creation. To improve the story the author could study many of the top rated works from the “Best of AoK” section of the Blacksmith, to further their design skills.
Overall: - I can’t really recommend this scenario currently, more work is needed to implement a story and make this a more challenging release to the Blacksmith.
