In this scenario you have to find a way to bypass the Drawbridges which
prevent you from gettiing into enemy territory.
( I think that the draw bridges are something really missed in "Age of Empires", - so I did this scenario to "introduce them into life" again.)
You will campain as Flavius Aetius who eventually
became a general of Romans army.

Aetius I-Drawbridges of the Barbarians is a mix of FF and B&D which, along with other things, introduces functional drawbridges into the game.
The game is exciting, initially beginning with a small cutscene and becomes an FF, which is made difficult because of spawning enemies in the way. You have to take control of a number of villagers and build up a town. After that you need to hold off attacks for a while and then destroy your enemies. This is difficult because their bases are all situated behind drawbridges which render them impossible to reach, until you get to destroy the 'master switch'. Even then the yellow drawbridge is not activated, perhaps because of a bug. Then it is a real problem because the other side is not easily reachable because the transport ships quickly sink. However I was able to transport a few villagers over and destroy them finally.
The drawbridges work perfectly except for the fact that they close off even if enemy arrows come in the vicinity. This is especially noticeable because I built a couple of castles near every drawbridge.
The game is very well balanced. The initial part with the FF is quite hard because you have to destroy the woad raiders tents to prevent them from spawning over and over. Then it becomes a 4 vs 1 B&D however this becomes easier if you wall up and defend for a long time. There is a lot of gold so eventually you can overcome the enemy. However it is extremely challenging all throughout and thus deserves a 5 here.
The game was very creative, especially in the drawbridges idea and it's implementation. It really stood out from other B&D scenarios because of it's different gameplay. There are also a few things like an earthquake and a 'master switch'. However apart from the theme there wasn't very much, hence a 4 in this category.
Map Design: 4
The map is both strategic ( in terms of drawbridges and moats , and chokepoints that you can easily defend your town with ), and looks good. It is much better than a random map, but could do with more terrain blending and the use of only one type of forest ( snow pine) for most of the scenario did not appeal very much. However it is perfectly suited for a B&D, with gold mines in clumps and no annoying elevations where you can't build town centres.
The instructions were adequate but the hints could have been better, eg. the engineers were 'working on' trebuchets and transport ships but you are given no clue as to when they would be fixed. Also it would have been better with a proper history and bitmap. The story is again good enough and fitting for a B&D.
This scenario is really recommended for download. It is a challenging B&D and the drawbridges provide a new experience altogether.
