The scenario is a cut-scene, the story is fiction, and you watch Arthur and Trikistan leave to visit another explorer across the Atlantic.
PLAYABILITY: You see two men boarding a boat; follow them across the whole map where it sinks while two units simultaneously die on the beach. All of this is boring and the trick failed as the boat is still too distant from the coastline to make it look like waves washed them ashore. Do not play resolution 800x600 or you will only see the boat sink but not the scene at the shore before victory. 2
BALANCE: This scenario does not show any warfare and the review tutorial provides an extra paragraph for scenarios without fighting. You have to take the intent and goals of the scenario into account when scoring the balance category, especially for those scenarios where fighting is not included. There is no reason to knock down the balance score if there is not any fighting. 5
CREATIVITY: Probably the author can do better but there was not much to rate apart from some triggers, a failed trick, sparse map design and an attempt to write a story. 2+
MAP DESIGN: Water with different depths covers most of the map. There was not much design, but the coast shows talent. However, I never saw swimming sea rocks in the Atlantic before. 3
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Apart from ‘sit back’, you do not need objectives. There is an attempt of a story that two friends decide to explore other parts of the earth, America, they heard of another explorer and a sacred tribe called the Mayans. However, the scenario does not work on its own, ends abrupt for which I deduct. 3
OVERALL: Exploring_Man 3 The Land Of The Mayans Demo is a very short cut-scene.
SUGGESTIONS: Have more land where you board the ship and where you arrive, some click and talk to learn more about the mission try more story and continue with some playable parts on the other side of the Atlantic.
IN CLOSING: I recommend this cut-scene only if you played ‘Exploring_Man 1 and 2 The Explorer’ and are curious enough to know how it continues.
