Story/Instructions: I'm listing this first because it effects the other scores. I was very disappointed, the story, well there wasn't really any story. The instructions, ugh, no intro instructions, no history and in-game instructions are extremely poor. Some of the problems include: 1) No use of the Objectives screen at all. 2) When tasks are completed either you are not told anything and have to guess at what to do next, or you are suddenly transferred somewhere else and given different units, also most times without being told what your next task is. 3) The instructions that are there are filled with spelling and grammar mistakes.
Playability: Like I said, the lack of instructions and clear objectives pulled down the rest of the scores. This is one campaign I will be immediately deleting from my harddrive.
Creativity: There wasn't anything new about this campaign, but it wasn't a bad idea.
Balance: Although I died several times, this was mainly due to having to guess where to go and accidently running into bandits. Beyond that, the gameplay was a bit too easy, and there was one MAJOR bug. At the end when you are instructed to destroy a castle, the player doesn't change their stance with you from Ally toe Enemy, so you just walk into their town with your undefended trebs and knock it down...you win!
Map Design: The one highlight of A day in France was the map design. Quite a bit of detail and a fair about of eyecandy, good use of elevation, mountains and cliffs. I'd say it was a solid 4, however, after completing the game I used 'marco' and 'polo' to have a better look around and saw that the entire upper corner of the map was empty except for the word "CHEATER" LOL! The author could have at least have made this area of the map water or something.
Final Thought: The author says this is his/her second scenario/campaign, well then, nice job on the map and the idea, but please work hard on the rest.
