TerrytheWhite's one minute comedic scenario is a spin off of the MasterCard "Priceless" commercials--AoK style...
PLAYABILITY: 2
This is a short cutscene, but this was intended to be humorous--and for me, it didn't achieve it's goal. I'm very familiar with the Mastercard "Priceless" commercials, and am a fan of them, but this one didn't tickle me much. There's also a minor bug in it where you miss the ending dialogue because castle arrows attack my unit.
BALANCE: 5
Cutscenes such as this, where balance does not apply, automatically earn a "5" rating. Congratulations.
CREATIVITY: 2
Not very creative, you could've made it much more elaborate, and had a higher quality punchline in the first place. Utilize more of the map, do some more in-depth thinking to create a more catchy punchline that is both humorous but still related to the origninal priceless commercials.
MAP DESIGN: 2
Better map design could've been incorporated into a more elaborate, funny spin-off of this well-known, popular series of commercials. You utilized too small a portion of the map, and your placement of units/buildings was off because a bug occurred at the end when a castle's arrows destroy my unit, thus cutting off the final dialogue.
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: 3
Instructions were fine, but what if you had a more complex story and then incorporated a history into it? That could've enhanced the cutscene significantly. It appears that with a bit more time put into the project, it could've been a success. I would most definitely suggest revamping this with some of my suggestions, you might be pleased with the results. Nice idea, though. |

PLAYABILITY
Priceless Comedic Cinematic (PCC) leaves a lot to the imagination. It is intended to be a lampoon of Mastercard's Priceless commercials, and thus a comedic cutscene. It may be just me, but I found it to be about as funny as a crutch. The punchline is very weak, the author should have worked a but harder in that area. Also, just before the last text message fires, a nearby castle turns to enemy and starts firing at the player's only unit. The scenario generally ends before the player even sees the final text message. My pausing the game just before my unit was exterminated by a rain of arrows, I was able to see the text message. The whole thing goes for less then a minute. -2
BALANCE
In cutscene or puzzle-style scenarios, it is unfair to rate the campaign with anything less then a 5.0 because balance was not the author's intention. Quoted from the review tutorial: One important item to note about scoring the balance category for scenarios where no fighting takes place, such as cut-scene scenarios, some puzzle scenarios and some rpg style scenarios, is that just because the player cannot die in such scenarios, that doesn't mean the scenario isn't balanced. You also need to take the author's original intent into account, giving the author some benefit of the doubt. If the author never intended the player to face a struggle to survive, then there's no reason to knock down the balance score if there isn't any fighting. So keep in mind that you do need to take the intent and goals of the scenario into account when scoring the balance category, especially for those scenarios where fighting is not included. 5
CREATIVITY
PCC toys with the fun idea of a comedic scenario...something which has only been attempted a few times, and which is generally a failure (with the notable exception of Kevin, the Unlikely Hero by JG). However, this particular scenario most definately needed a lot longer in the oven before coming to the table. Try and give it a bit more depth and flavour, and work on the weak joke. 4
MAP DESIGN
There was no map design. It seems that the designer generated a blank map, and then banged down units and buildings in a manner appropriate for the scenario. The map is basically an eyesore to look at. Even some eye-candy would improve the rating. 1
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS
No story, no instructions, and no .bmp. There are three text messages, but they all ran a bit too fast to be read easily. I understand it may be a bit redundant having a complex storyline in a 50 second comedy skit, but perhaps you could have included some pre-game instructions explaining what the scenario is about? 1
SUMMARY
A short cinematic, that overall isn't half as funny as the commercials. |
