The year is 781 AD, and for nearly a century Charlemagne has been persecuting the pagan Saxons under blade and law (i.e., Capitulary for Saxony). Denmark stands firm behind the Danevirke (a massive fortified wall on the southern Danish border) hoping it will keep the Frankish troops from violating their culture as well. Norway, separated by a sliver of ocean and riddled with internal strife, chaotically awaits Charlemagne\'s next move. Enter Thorgeirr. His clan has survived numerous tribal wars without an army simply because his land controls the majority of the trees. Thorgeirr has been able to negotiate plot shares with potential enemies in exchange for an agreement of neutrality. However, trees die and trust fades, it seems a fungus has invaded Eyvindr\'s (a nearby chieftain) plot share and he blames Thorgeirr, becoming his enemy. Forced to train an army, Thorgeirr builds a Training Camp. During construction (782 AD), 4,500 Saxons are executed by Charlemagne. Thorgeirr must now rush to train an army as two enemies are encroaching on two separate fronts.
The first scenario in this file is called Chapter I: Dawning of a New Age. You are the Vikings in Norway and you need to train your villagers to become soldiers and advance to the Castle Age so you are better prepared to combat the Christians. In the second chapter Preemptive Strike you continue to follow the Norwegian chieftain, Thorgeirr, and his son, Thorgisl, as they stand up to the Christians and lead the first recorded Viking attacks. In the third chapter Holy War Thorgisl unleashes Odin’s rage upon Ireland in a furious effort to wipe out every monastery that carries a whisper of the Lindisfarne legacy. In the final scenario Halfdan's Honour, Thorgisl’s son, Halfdan, is leading an invasion of Northumbria in hopes of finally ending the Lindisfarne legacy in one swift and fatal blow.
Just so everyone knows there could be several bugs for the Training Camp, so save often when going through the Training Camp, and if it gets too hard and you want to give up - go ahead. But if you really want to beat the first scenario, but a bug is preventing you to, let me know and I'll update the scenario fixing that bug.
