This campaign involves a small village named Royal Town and their charasmatic hero, Roland. There are four scenarios and all the triggers should work. It's really fun to play and I hope you enjoy it! |

There is a lot of waiting in this campaign. Take scenario 2 for example, the main objective is to collect 10,000 gold. That's a bit too much. And there's not a lot of action from the beginning of the scenario to the end of the scenario. No one attacks, nothing happens. All these scenarios start off good, but slowly everything dies down and it ends up that the player has to wait for the objective to be fulfilled.
To improve, one should make the whole scenario interesting, not just the beginning half of it. And not to
have objectives where we have to do a lot of waiting (i.e. collect 10,000 gold, wait for Vikings to retreat). |

A very great 4 scenario campaign. This campaign had almost everything I never expected anything like this since AOK has just been released. All scenarios were very challenging and sometimes impossible to play. Its hard to win without starting over on some. There are a good amount of triggers from what I could see and were mostly used beautifully.
Now as all campaigns there were problems. First off there were no bitmaps so it was hard to know where to go always. Also there wasn't anything very special in the design or new features I haven't seen before. In the scenario where you fight the Vikings, the lag was bad and was almost impossible to beat them without dying 3 times first.
The second scenario where you are suppose to gather 10000 gold, didn't have much of a point besides showing you people in the future. Many times the enemy forces were overwhelming and to strong to beat even on moderate.
A good but not best campaign which I think you should download. There are many ways this campaign could be improved but did catch my eye and left me wanting for more. |

This campaign has its ups and lows. There are interesting points, like the joust on scenario 3. But the scenario objectives are quite regular, like killing all enemies, collecting some resources, and defending the city. None of the scenarios are truly challenging, in some the enemies don't attack, or the enemy attacks in a feeble way, and it is easy to stop him right on his tracks. The maps are interesting, and overall the campaign is fun. I'd say this is a average campaign that is adequatly done and deserves a shot. |

The campaign Royal Town is a B&D and includes four scenarios. A long time ago a rich town, called Royal Town, became a pathetic village, victim to harassing bandits and bickering kings who wanted to take it over. One man, called Roland, stepped forward to lead them against tyranny and to help the people to rebuild their town.
PLAYABILITY: All scenarios have interesting and promising starts, but scenarios two to four get a tad boring after a while due to objective choices like gather 10'000 gold, with no attacks really; survive until the Vikings retreat, what takes 90 minutes; survive 1300 years, you have a wonder. The campaign had its good parts like “Roland” which starts with an opening cut-scene, the fight between two Kings; afterwards it is a B&D and you free the area from surrounding bandits. “The Joust” was fun and a new aspect of the game. 3
BALANCE: The campaign was played on difficult and was partially challenging. In general the scenarios were too easy and had not enough threatening attacks, to make you loose. The balance improves in the last two scenarios, but once you are in the game and find the right tactic for defence, you just continue to play until your main objectives are fulfilled. 2
CREATIVITY: The creativity was the best part of this scenario. LordDavenShire shows an opening cut-scene, a good use of triggers and the first joust, which was very special when the scenario was released. The story is creative and develops over the four scenarios. 4
MAP DESIGN: All maps are custom made, show variety and are quite pleasant, but too many areas are just grass 1 and there are no elevations. 3
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: The author gives a history of the Royal Town and your objectives are clear. The story develops in game; you start in the village Royal Town to fight the bandits in your area, trade with the Persian and Chinese Empire to get the economy going, leave for a journey and a joust, to finally defend the again rich town from a siege. 3
OVERALL: One of the first campaigns with overall ratings between 2.6 and 3.6 and worth a download.
FINAL OBSERVATION: I revised my review posted 02/01/21 after replaying and increased my ratings. |
