Battle for Europe (BFE)
By _RagnarokCoatl_
Hallo, this is my newest creation, BFE.
It's sort of like a WM, RM, and a touch of a Blood in one-- but with many more features.
It took about two months to finish, and has 813 triggers!
Main Features:
- A damn good map of Europe, stretching from North Africa to Norway, and Russia to Spain.
- Full eye candy, I've done my best to make the entire map easy on the eyes.
- Resources on the map will infinitely respawn. No more of that twenty ugly gold piles all stuck together that eventually run out! All gold, stone, berries, deer, boar, some fish, and even some trees will respawn forever.
- You choose where you spawn; you don't just start by, let's say England because you're player 5, or load up a transport on Antartica. You can choose from three different locations, so you can get closer to where you preferably want to go.
- An active "timeline" which affects the map, and the way the game unfolds.
- There are twenty-one cities around the map, they're designated by particular buildings named for the city they signify. They will create military units for you to use in battle. (Like London makes archers and longbows)
- Historical heroes will appear to help whoever finds them first when the right year on the timeline has come. Some heroes will give free technologies, but most are just to help you in battle.
- Seven "Gods" are available for you to choose, each one is unique and will affect you in different ways.
If you're going to host, treat it like a World Map and unlock teams unless for some reason you don't want to. Also, remember to make sure there are at least five players when you start a game, or the startup flags will be messed up. If you don't have five players and you still want to play (Like if you only had four people), just add a computer player to fill the slot. Don't worry, the computer will be booted once the game begins anyway.

MrBlack, I have tried to record BFE many times in multi, but the game crashes sometime around the 3rd hour. This leads to the rec being corupted. If you or anyone else knows how to fix this, let me know. Also, as this is still my favorite scenario I would love to get a chance to play it with you so send me an email at nalydhillman[at]gmail.com. [Edited on 02/19/08 @ 08:26 AM]

I did a single-player game of this and just explored Europe, met heroes, got armies etc. and I was REALLY impressed. I think it would be an awesome idea if someone did a Middle-Earth version of this using METC. Having Aragorn, Saruman etc popping up all over the place would make it an astounding game really woth playing :) |

I enjoyed this map a lot (though I could have done without the author's snarky comments in the in-game messages and the documentation).
For those who are having the crashing problem, there is an error in a trigger set to go off at the 8400 second mark which is supposed to found the city of Algiers. One of the effects is a remove object which has no target. Once the effect is removed the game runs fine. I have a edited copy of the map with just that change made, which I'd be glad to offer to update this file. |

Just in case you or anyone else who has fixed this problem wants to share, please send a copy to my email at the address in my above post. A scenario of this quality deserves a little more recognition then this one received. |

nyases,
I'll send you a copy of the modified scx as soon as I can get access to it. I'm at university now, and the files in question are on my home computer.
Please give me a week or so. |

Just to be sure, was this file ever upgraded? I had sent the fixed file by email, but I never received a response. |

peripatetic,
My apologies, it completely slipped my mind that you had sent the file. If I remember correctly, I had a few email troubles back then. I will check the file out and update as soon as time allows me.
EDIT: I have as of now updated the file and written a short description, which is mandatory nowadays. Thanks very much peripatetic for pointing out the bug and for fixing it. :-)

I took the liberty of providing an updated version of the file that removes some of the author's anti-semitic imagery and comments that put an unnecessary blemish on an otherwise excellent map. |
