You play El Cid and Iman attacks the town of Guy Josselyne for whom you work. Your only hope seems to be Merlin. Fight against a magier is mainly a B&D with RPS elements.
PLAYABILITY: The scenario begins with a cut-scene which is not enjoyable to watch, mainly because of the map design of the city. It is also quite repetitive, you click and Iman destroys gates and your army, but it helps the story. The playable part of the scenario is entertaining and challenging and I enjoyed the part in the maze done with cliffs and well as the B&D. The playability got marked done because of bugs which can really destroy part of the fun the author intended and mainly succeeded to give you with this scenario. The first bug concerns four huscarls on the other side of the river. Most of the times they stay the colour (yellow) of your enemy (Aztecs) in the B&D. Hence they do not give up when defeated and you can not cross the river. If you play this version before it is updated, here is the solution: Save game right at the beginning, use Marco Polo and when the whole yellow army around the dome in the woods turned orange, go back to saved game, play and enjoy. Otherwise you have to restart. The second bug is with the same army. When I was told to destroy Joan’s army, two conquistadors and a spearman stayed orange and I did not get the gate key. Solution: Change diplomacy to enemy of the orange colour, it won’t work if you do it after you defeated yellow. 3+
-Get rid of the bugs, play test and I liked the cut-scene of the Demo better.
BALANCE: This was the strongest part of the scenario. I played on medium and had some reloads in the maze and especially in the beginning of the B&D. The scenario is very challenging, but you can win with the right tactics. 4+
CREATIVITY: Different scenes of action, good development of the story in game and parts of the map were creative. 4-
MAP DESIGN: The map was done from scratch with some effort and had up and down parts. The design of the town was awful, new pavement all over the place with some lonely buildings. There were elevations, but a big brush was used for most of the woods and many parts were grass 1. The different scenes like the snow landscape on cliffs, the area around the dome, the Teutonic knights in the wood and the cemetery saves the rating to average. 3
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: The opening cut-scene is used as an element to get you into the story and serves this purpose very well. You get clear in game objectives, but the poor introduction screen and spelling errors do not permit a higher rating. 3-
