I could be wrong, but I think the only way to use an AI in multiplayer is to create a scenario and include those AI's.
Check out the AoKH Forums for more info.

First you must put the .AI and .PER files in your game AI folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\AI
Then while you are in the map editor, click on the "Players" tab. Down at the bottom of the screen is a box under "Personalities" - if your AI is in the proper game folder it will appear on the drop down list. Make sure you have the correct player number and player type (computer or human) selected as well.
Hope this helps. Please join us at the AoKH Scenario Design and Modding Forum to learn more. |

Thanks for the pointers, I will try this and let you know how it works out. Thanks, Lee
EDIT:
I tried this but I keep getting the error
File-=T13+-\Defconst.per
ERR 5001:File Open Failed
Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong? Thanks, Lee[Edited on 11/21/09 @ 06:42 PM]

You must follow the author's instructions and put the files in the proper folders for it to work. Do not forget to put the .per file in with the AI files in your game folder.

Thanks, I was able to do this and it works fine in the single player mode, but when I try to use in the multiplayer mode, none of the name of the tribes or their nationalities show up, there is also no choice for AI in the game menu. Thanks for your help. Lee |

You are correct, in multiplayer you do not have the option of selecting an AI.
If you would have searched the AoKH AI forum for "multiplayer", you would have found that it is possible to have an AI in multiplayer custom scenarios.

LaughingMule, thank you for responding. I thought someone had forgotten about me or just ignored the question so I just gave up. I will try the steps you suggeted and give ATE another shot. If it installs correctly, what should I see in the drop-down menu? Thanks again, I appreciate it. By the way, are there any DM AI's you can recommend that are good on MICHI Maps with a Post-Imperial start? Thanks |

If the AI and PER files are placed in the correct folder, you will see the name of the AI file in the drop-down menue in the map editor under the players tab. Currently my drop-down shows several AI file names as I have some immobile ones for scenario designing and others to practice against like AllianceThundaEmpire.
To assist you in finding other AI files to try, look in the left navigation bar for "Advanced Search"
I did this: Advance Search - Category: AI Files, keyword "Death Match" - returned results:
http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/lister.php?category=ai&pauthor=&title=&search=death+match&rating_op=%3D&rating_value=&meta_version=
When I did the same search for "MICHI" - there were no results.
Searching the "Best AI Files" (also on the left nav bar) brings up 6 files (Note: only files rated by an official reviewer make this list.)
http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/best_of.php?category=ai
Or you can go to the AI files page and sort by clicking on the column headings. That is how I found ATE the first time I downloaded it.
I hope this info helps, I don't know a lot about AI files. There is an entire forum for AI and Random Map scripting at the AoKH forum. |
