Random Steppes is a wide-open map with little defensible structure. The 'random' means that the terrain will randomly be chosen from 6 differet types, including desert, frozen and tropical. However, the resources are the same for all 6 types. This is a combination of my previously released Arctic, Tropical and Desert Steppes with additional terrain types added.
This is a great map for rushing/flushing. If you like flushing on Arabia, you will probably like this map. There are a few more deer and boar, and a little more stone and gold.
There is significantly less forest than on Arabia, and patches of forest are smaller. The differences in forest mean less defensible positions, a need to pay more attention to woodcutting than on other maps, and a need to better defend woodcutters from the flush as it is more difficult to relocate woodcutting operation (as forests are not as close to each other or to the TC). There are 2 more straggler trees near each TC to help with early starting.
